I am having some personal problems with my employer (father) and must find a new job. I will be graduating soon and would like to find a job that will pay between $8 - 12 dollars an hour that I can work in through college. I cannot handle another fast food job making $6 an hour. I have just realized I bought a lemon car that is sucking me dry and I would like to be able to afford a payment on a used car on top of my other expenses. I wanted to get a job at my local Menard's where they start at $9.15 an hour, but I cannot work there because my sister works there and they have dumb rules.

If anyone has any suggestion's of a decent job for the college student I would be very grateful. I would rather find one decent one then bounce between two. I realize I am not going to find an awesome job being a highschool/college student. I am 18 though.

I am very opened minded and open to hear ANY suggestions.

I don't live in Indiana, but if there's a Lowes or Home Depot near you they treat their employees fairly well.

It also depends on where you are going to college.

Also, don't let a falling out with your Dad last for a long term. YOu are only 17/18 which means your WHOLE life is in front of you. Too much to waste being bitter with your Dad. Maybe just a break from each other for a while will give you both a fresh perspective.

I know what you mean about "food". I was fairly lucky with jobs, I grew up in Orlando and worked at Walt Disney World for about 25 years. I did 6 years in the Navy which did wonders for teaching me self respect and maturity and self discipline.

I will probably return to Disney after I finish a (late) finishing of school here in Houston.

Be cautious about your plans. Don't be too impulsive. There are many things you can do. If you have any specific info about what you want to do, let me know.

I'll keep your situation in my prayers and thoughts though.

I would not say me and my father had a falling out. It is just we don't mingle very well when we work together. We somehow always end up raising fists over little stuff at work. At home we get along great though. Me and my dad are tight.

As of life plans I do not know. I would like to own my own business, but my thoughts on my future switch every other week it seems like.

I would just like to find a decent job that will get me through college. I will check into the Home Depot and Loews.

I really don't know what advice to give you since you live in indiana.

First thing first, go to your school and see what kind of job services, scholarships or any free money source that you can get to.

I also suck at finding a job, i have the right qualifications but its all about being at the right place at the right time. Go around stores you would like to work at handing out resumes and asking if they have any vacancies. If they accept you and you dnt like the pay, you can always say no.

If you're up for the hours (not sure what your local one would offer), check into working for UPS. Most of the time they are always hiring guys that can work at night loading up the trucks for deliveries the next morning. They pay decently well and they even offer health insurance if I remember correctly. Since it's loading up trucks, you even get the added bonus of getting some exercise in the process of working. :) Check the following link - it looks like they have a part time offering that will give you some tuition assistance at college as well. Definitely worth looking into!
