Hey ! Thought this would be a very interesting thread regarding Reverse Anorexia !

My question to you guys as fellow BB'rs is " How far does a person need to go to get Reverse Anorexia ??!

To those of you who are not familiar with the condition .. Unlike Anorexia where he / she has the desire to be thin and see themselves as the opposite, With reverse anorexia the BBer strives constantly to gain lean body mass and even then when looking at yourself in the mirror you still see a body your not completely satisfied with correct ?! So do you think we ALL have such a condition ??? We as BB'ers look at ourselves and want to work on our weaknesses / or mainly just work for alot more muscle mass because we strive to gain lean muscle mass from working out as hard as we do in the gym !

So what are your opinions on the subject ?? When does it get to the stage of such a disorder ?? and admitting to ourselves when will we be happy with our physique's ??

Im not asking how big you want to get or anything along those lines, but Reverse anorexia does truly exist,

your thoughts ?

i guess it starts when you stop loving yourself for what and who you are.

we may all have "Bigorexia" to an extent, which is simply just a desire to get bigger than what we are now, but we are always happy with what we've got, but will always try to be better than what we are now.
thats what seperates us from those who have Extreme Bigorexia as i have coined it.
Extreme Bigorexia where you make extreme choices almost irrationally.. abusing steroids, strange training cycles, obsessive and hardcore dieting, ect.

im not a doctor/psychologist so i dont really know.

The term "bigorexia" is actually used in the industry to describe the condition you listed.

I posed this to my professor who is a clinical psychologist and he said it is like alcoholics anonymous; you basically have to determine when the it negatively conflicts with your daily life, and when it is an addiction that you cannot control. An example would be if you train with broken bones because you are so warped you think that training with a broken bone is better that suffering disuse atrophy. It's basically your call.

Hope this helps!

I think there has to be something that has to do with the natural urges for every male. We could go on talking about what actions make a man a man, but at the base of things a guy wants to show he's more manly than another one he shows male features, muscles, facial hair, body hair, some variation of that.

Muscle dysmorphia, you h ave to look at snynthol abusers, they mistake muscular size for size in general.

its when you look in a mirror and you dont see how you look , you only see how you dont look! ex you wont see the 18" arms you have , you will only see the 21" arms you dont have!?

yes, exactly like that. but i imagine most bodybuilders are like that.. thats what makes us strive to be better than what we already are.
the people with serious bigorexia take it way too far.. imagine emo for bodybuilders.. thats what its like. people with serious bigorexia cant appreciate nothing they have/do.

Bigorexia=emo bodybuilding.

Thomas - evolutionary tie - valid and very real
Mlkman - totally - not seeing reality
Mygeeto - perfect comparison- although emo's are depressed type of people and I use bb's to be happy. But I totally understand where you are coming from with the statement.
