Just thought I would let you guys know that my family has adopted a service man fighting in Iraq..
His name is LCPL Goldsmith,, he is ( I believe ) 18 years old and we send him personal supplies that take about 10 days to get to his squad. He is also married and his wife is in the Navy serving in the War also.
When we go shopping at Wal-Mart of some other place, we buy a few extra things every time we are there, then come home pack the items up and when the box is packed full we send the box over to the address he supplies to us.
Unfortunately he does not communcate a great deal with us. We have only received one letter so far from him in the past. I do know that he is alive and is now back in Hawaii at his post, he is there until his next deployment to the desert.
He's actually my son's penn pal and we write to him in my son's behalf. Actually I type everything up and send it to him in the flat rate US postal box.
It gives me a great deal of honor and happiness to do this for someone I don't even know or have ever seen before in my life. Seeing how he is 18 and I'm 40 and have 2 kids. I feel for the guy being away from his wife and family.
I do think about the young guy often and hope that he returns safetly to his wife and parents soon.
Chris
