Well monday's drill was a really good one. My captain Mark was in control of the drill.
We did fire hydrant connections, then wheel chocking the ladder truck ( 60 footer ), and Outrigger stablization pad placement.
Each one of us took turns doing this. The younger senior firefighter was first his name is Marcin. 18 yo. No ass under him at all, ( almost zero strenght ).. He had trouble doing the hydrant connections, the hose was heavy for him. He could not break the Nut loose from the hydrate. Tooo tight. The wheel chocks are fairly easy. And placment of the Out rigger pads is simple.
They reset the hydrant up for me and put everything else back as well..
I'm on deck. The captain yelled GOOOOOOOOO.
Grabbed the 5 inch line hose pulled it to the hydrant, I completely wrap around the hydrant one time ( specifications ) . The truck moved to away. I waited until it stopped. The drive gave me the thumbs up. MY TURN... Unloosed the hydrant like it was nothing. Spun it off, undid the other couplings and put them on as well. Record time was met. Grabbed the wheel chocks, placed them in proper position.,,,Fast.. then did the Out rigger pad placement.. Waited for the Captain to give the signal and BAMMMMMM. DONE..
Marcin came up to me at the end and said DAM your strong, throwing the hose around like that, that thang is heavy. I looked at him and chuckled a little bit. I said that's not really heavy at all. I want to be the best firefighter I can be. You work out and get some muscle it will be light for you also. I can help you gave size if you want to. He said that would be nice but I have no time.. I said I only need 20 minutes after a drill. We can workout in the fire station. How bad do you want it. It's up to you let me know.
I impressed the captain enough that he commented about it to me after the drill.. You did a very nice job, made it look really easy.. I replied Thanks Mark I appreciate that alot.
Chris
