this is the tabs to BATTLE HYMNS by MANOWAR.. it is one of my favorite songs if not my all time favorite.
YouTube - Battle Hymn Live - just so ya's all know what it sounds like

Battle Hymn Introver 2 Intro Tab by Manowar @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

questions...
i know what e, B, G D, A, E are... but those numbers on the lines, what are they for? are those numbers representing each fret?
and how do i know how many times to strike each note, and when?

and why is it the strings sound like complete shit?
if i strike a note it makes a horrible god damn sound thats pissing me off... i know im only a beginner but i know that its not suppose to sound the way it is
and when it does sound right, i go to release the chord and hit another note and just as i take my finger away, bam! sounds like shit again. its pissing me off im gonna end up hurling the guitar through the window soon

The numbers on the lines are the frets yes, so a 0 is an open string & 1 is the first fret & then all the way up.

In terms of the sound your getting, it takes time, try to hit the notes gently to start, if it's buzzing youre getting your probably hitting them to hard.

find the structures to some basic chords & practise trying to get a clear sound when strumming first off.

Guitar takes alot of patience man, best way to learn imo is with a teacher.

What do you have for your guitar?

Do you have a tuner? An amp? And two guitar cords that can go into the tuner? Sometimes guitars don't come tuned already so the sound is bad. When you read tablature, it doesn't give you the timing for songs, thats the bad thing, you have to listen to the song and time it yourself.

6:
5:
4:---------------------------------0
3:---4---0------4--0------4---0---
2: 2---2----------------2---2----
1:-------------3--3---------------

Say something like this, this is the intro piece for Metallica's One. You would play the 2nd fret, on the second string first, then the 4rth on the third string and so on. 0 means no string is pressed down.

How To Read Guitar Tab

If your getting an odd sound you may not be putting your finger in the right place.

The first fret is in between the top of the neck of the guitar and the first metal piece, you press down the string against the wood and have your finger close to the center of the string.

What you might be doing to make the chords sound wrong is hitting other strings by mistake or moving too forcefully. You might be inetveringly doing pull offs. If you move your finger so that it plucks back the string slightly you will make another sound. So maybe your not moving your finger directly up and off.

i have an Ashton.. im not sure of the model, and i also have an Ashton amplifier
the tuner is built into the guitar itself. i've already figured out how to tune it so its all good with that.
im making a conscious effort to only hit the string/s i have to and with as little strength possible (i dont hit them that hard to start with anyway)

also what is the 0 fret? if the first fret is right below the headstock then how do i find the 0 fret?
okay say this is the top end of the neck of the guitar, each backslash represents the frets right and the capital i's is the headstock... is fret 0 right here where he 0 is?
---------------------------------I
/ 5 / 4 / 3 / 2 / 1 / 0
---------------------------------I

ill check my form next time i play and see if i am lifting away clean and fast enough to see if thats the problem

i recommend you get a program called guitar pro or power tab... although they are essentially the same thing as text tabs, but these programs allow you to play along with the tab... and also have rhythm markings..

but if you are having troubles playing notes... the SLOW IT RIGHT DOWN. to shred you need to start off going snail pace... then slwoly speed up. thats the only way to get clear and articulate notes.

lol strings sound complety shit at the moment dw every starts off like that its cause you havnt got the finger skills down yet, if its got a buzzing noise when you have your finger on it perfectly, it means you might have do get the frets filled down then polished (comes under warrenty) or the rod in the neck is out by a few milimeters

you dont have to do anything for the frets... if its a new guitar then dressing the frets is a stupid idea unless you want to have like super low action... but yeah... if you have buzzing (aka fret buzz) then take it to your local guitar shop and ask them to service you're guitar, check the intonation, action and truss rod. Dont adjust the truss rod by yourself

but also dont always assume its a hardware problem either, check to see you have the finger in the correct position, using enough pressure, make sure your pickups arent hitting the strings when you fret a note, they can be adjusted witha screwdriver, and doesnt fuck anything on the guitar if you adjust them.

Other than that your guitar should be sounding alright.

axes = Fender stratocaster (jap) standard parts
Ibanez RG320 (main guitar)(korean, and despite this, it is a really clean sounding guitar) standar parts.... mainly cus i cant afford to buy any pickups at the moment hahaha

Fender is in Dstandard, and Ibanez is in E standard cus i hate fucking with the floating tremolo when i change tunings haha

Use pretty light strings 9-46 on ibanez 10-46 on fender, i really like light strings, and i can still get really punchy lows with high gain.

www.myspace.com/corpsetumour i have a couple songs ive written up on there, the recordings are a heap of shit, but the actual songs have potential i reckon.
