Anyone know of a fast place with lots of stuff. Limewire and Ares suck for me. I have a really fast connection here at college so i am wondering what y'all use. I also use mIRC but i would like to try sumtin else like FTPs. Hook me up!
You shouldn't need to convert a movie to anything after it's downloaded. If it's not playing back correctly, you may need the proper codec. It could also be a garbage file posted by somebody who hates filesharing and wants to waste people's bandwidth as some kind of punishment for engaging in the activity.
I think a lot of time the file sharing software really depends on your own ISP. A lot of them now have smart routers/etc. in the datacenters that can detect when you're using P2P software and then they will throttle your bandwidth so you can't download them very fast at all. It's their way of helping cut back on P2P transfers without banning them completely which could end up in the courts. This isn't published much because the ISPs dont want to tell you they're doing it (obviously because you'd probably try to find another ISP if you're into that sort of thing) but I know of a few Universities that do it for sure... so the problem doesn't always lie in the software.
