alright does anyone here really feel like yelling and screaming while doing their workout is helping that much?!? its pretty annoying...i understand ppl try to "hype" themselves up and all....but i bet they werent screaming like that in the gym when they first started working out, but NOW since they think they can do alot of weight...lets just let everyone else know about it....pathetic ...last sunday i got 345lbs on bench 6 times and didnt make a sound... yesterday this guy puts 245lbs on bench and just screams and grunts as loud as possible i dont understand

I grunt, but I don't scream. When i diet and I accumulate sore spots all over, most of the grunts are kinda like sayin ouch without saying the word ouch, some exercises hurt -literally.
I don't however scream at the top of my lungs to let everyone know, or see what I lift..honestly if I could get big curling 10lbs as a max, i would. Squating 135 would be nice too, but you have to pile it on, after 15 years it just hurts some days. But I can relate-this one ass years ago used to yell out after a couple of warm up sets "LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!" what a fuckin cheezball, guy was just a lard ass too.
Personally if Ronnie Coleman is in gym yellin "light weight" I can live with it-he's Ronnie.
But if average half as Joe with 4wks training is doin it, he has to go.

I've been told I grunt, don't really know what comes out when I'm lifting heavy, whatever happens, happens. The on purpose screaming and yelling for attention typically lends to folks like me laughing (at least they got my attention). If someone is coming out of the hole with 600lbs and he yells, I really don't have a problem with that, it's almost instinct. Point is if your thinking about whether or not your making noise during a lift and trying to be quite or whatever then your not 100% in the lift. I don't give a shit what anybody thinks about me in the gym I'm in there for me not them.

sometimes it does help to let out a grunt or a few to get out another 2-3 seemingly not possible reps. im always quite when i workout and when i near the end of my sets when i cannot do another rep quitely ill let out a grunt to get just a few more reps out. it does work

I'll move it for ya...

I make little noise as possible but i've let loose on a grunt or two when stressing. I don't mind a grunt or a yell or three but the ones that do it every rep and do it loud get on my nerves...until I got my mp3 player, that is.

What actually gets on my nerves more is the folks that come to the gym for social hour, never freakin stop talking about stupid shit. And Billy out of shape bob who has taken his buddy super skinny frank under his wing and never shuts up on how this is how you build this muscle and this is the way you do these movements, etc, etc. Turn up my iPod and yell a little louder!

I cant help grunting during deadlifts. Well I try to keep it as low as possible. It just comes out as a grunt when im breathing and pulling heavy ass weight.

what about the gym instructor who is always socialising with the lifters, talking to them instead of watching the new guys on thier form?
