If you have any recommendations for products that can convert my VHS/Hi8 videos to digital files, please let me know. Any I should avoid? Also, please let me know roughly how much I should expect to spend.

Thanks in advance.

are you trying to take video from a VHS tape, and put it on your computer? If so, you'll need a VCR, a TV Tuner card, and the a/v cables. You can pick up a good internal TV Tuner for under a hundred dollars, and they are worth it.

I would recommend a Hauppauge TV Tuner card, the ATI and other Tuner cards have to use the processor on the mainboard for processing the data from VHS to Digital formats ( AVI, MPEG, MPEG4), unlike the Hauppauge TV card it has a build on processor witch is good because you can still do other things while your vids are being made.

Hauppauge 250 = around $80.00
Hauppauge 350 = around $95.00 (The 350 has a build in FM modulator for recording FM broadcast!)
