Hey everybody, thought I'd start with posting some photos. I haven't taken any before photos, so I had to browse around to find these on my computer. Unfortunately they don't show much, but should give a general idea. I'm a bit nervous about sharing these as I still know I have a good ways to go, but I'm up for any advice!

This was back in March 07:

not sure what my weight was...I wasn't working out very much back then, I had only barely used what we had at home at the time (a crossbow machine). I'm about 5'11", and I'm guessing I weighed around 140-145 (?)

Here's another from the same time - I lit the hell out of it though, so I look a little better (still WAAAY too skinny):

In the summer of 08 I began rock climbing, which helped me gain some strength and get an interest in lifting. I lifted off and on (with and without consistency) for a while, at least since August or September of 08. Only recently have I dug deep into the food side of things, and I actually just finished a Nutrition course that I took for fun at the local college.

My diet is pretty good from what my knowledge and research has led me to believe. I eat around 3200-3500 Cals a day, bumped up from around 2500 a day a month or so ago. I usually try to consume about 175g of Protein, 450g of carbs (complex), and 75g of healthy fats. Sometimes I get more than that, but that's usually what I go for.

On workout days (~2 times a week, not including a day of rock climbing) I eat a bit differently. Right after my workout I take about 50 grams of simple carbs (maltodextrin, dextrose, etc.) with about 15g of Whey Protein. Within 45 minutes I try to eat a large meal, often with a white bread or some sort of quick-absorbing carbohydrate. I have another shot of sugar at about 2 hours after my workout to prolong my anabolic window, and usually try to eat again before 4 hours after my workout.

I often make a casein protein shake right before bed, and try to get around 6-9 hours of sleep each night.

From all I've researched and learned, that seems like it would work. Some of that is new, and I haven't done it long enough to see if it will really work well. I'm open to more suggestions :)

I could use some tips on the workout plan side of things, though. I'll probably post that a bit later if you guys think it would be useful.

Here are some snaps I took last night. I didn't have time to take any leg shots, I'll have to do that soon. My legs are horribly skinny, but I'm working hard on em.

Anyway, new pics (ignore the trucker hat and lack of tan):

@ 5'11", ~160lbs, ~10% body fat (just a guess)

You are a classic ectomorph--low bodyfat. Looks like you are starting to ad some muscle, which really shows due to your leanness. You are making some nice gains so far--keep it up!

Thanks man!

I'm a photographer, actually. I do self portraits to test lighting setups sometimes, and I did that here...they're pretty sloppy snaps, but thanks :)

Nice man, my girlfriend is getting into photography as a hobby and she is loving messing around with her new camera. Maybe some day she can take some pics and make me look as good as you, haha!

haha lighting for this is pretty easy in all honesty. You want pretty harsh light (small light sources) coming from above and also possibly from behind (and slightly to the side). The back-side ones (which I didn't use here) show the shape of the muscles on the edges, and the small main light sources (from above works best, certainly not from straight on) give harsher shadows that help show the shape of the muscle too.

It's not cheating :)

Thanks, man!

I use few lenses, but I think I was using a 70-200mm f/2.8L for those (canon). Longer focal lengths (past 50mm) flatten perspective and show size better than wider angles. :)

Know what you mean I used a Nokia 75mm f/2.2 (i guess 105/2.8 is best for portrait but you need to have a large room :-) )

some recent ones...I've lost 6 pounds (UGH) while in the amazonian jungle and andes mountains for two weeks (Ecuador). Thankfully most of that was from fat.

Wheels to come...didn't have time to take them yet. They're training wheels, but I know they're crucial so I'll be getting those done soon.

Disclaimer - didn't flex my lats in the first one, so they look nonexistent. You can see them better a few photos down.

The Beginning,

Congratulations - looks really good - and also your photo skills have improved :-)

I like most the second photo from the bottom; really impressive (also as a photo) - good shoulder and biceps development. Your Pecs in this photo look good, although in the first photo I have not seen them - lighting?

Also the fourth photo from top (b/w) is really good as it shows great abs definition - I would say you are around 5-6% BF!!!

The main development area seems your lats. However to better judge this maybe you can also post a photo of your back lat spread:

Bodybuilding.com - Posing Guides - Round One - Compulsory Poses: Back Lat Spread!

And yes, show us your legs :-)

p.s. on a personal note - your hair looks much better like this!

Thanks man!

I find the double bicep post is the hardest pose for me to show pecs...always has been. I think my elbows were slightly back in that one too, which didn't help.

The second to last photo may be slightly cheaterish...since that pose kind of pushes your arm against your lat, it tends to exaggerate the bicep more. It's a great pose though, really allows natural flexing of several muscles.

Here are a few more, including one that shows the lats a little (from the front):

semi-lat spread (front):

A quick snap of my tiny wheels I forgot I had:

A few months ago I had twigs for legs, so as pathetic as they look, they're actually improving.

and unflexed, just to have:
