When I'm asked how long I've been working out, my answer of "a year and a half" often results in a suprised look. Really?? Only a year and a half? Then I have to tell the whole story.
I started working out at 14 and managed to gain about 30 lbs. I had built a solid foundation going from 130 to 160 in a year and a half and was around 16% BF. But for all these years, it's been on and off. More off as I'd only work out Spring and Summer.
As soon as tank top weather was gone so would my desire to train. But thanks to a beautiful thing called muscle memory, I could always get back to that level of shape within a couple of months no matter how long I layed off.
So in January of 2006, I found myself grossly out of shape. I hadn't worked out in about 4 years and it showed. I looked like shit! Double chin, 34" waist. As my new year's resolution, I decided to get back into shape and stay that way this time.
So now 18 months of hard work later at 39, I'm in the best shape of my life with no intentions of ever stopping again. And the most satisfying part of it is I did it all without the use of drugs of any kind. No gear..no shortcuts. I will say that is was made easier with the help of John Berardi's Precision Nutrition System and the supreme quality of Biotest supplements - Surge and Flameout in particular and of course hard & consistant work and brutal disclipline. At 5'7" my current progress chart looks like this:
