no, im not even sure what l-carnetine is. i take creatine, protein, glutamine, l-arginine, and vitamins.

My diet on the bulking stage was probably not the best because I ate too much of the wrong foods. BUT, i did ensure that my body had the requirements for growth and recovery by overeating a little. I think you could make good gains in mass by eating a lot, but of the RIGHT foods.

no. my bro and i have never used any sort of gear. my brother has great genetics (tall, super wide frame, good structure), so if he were on gear I think he would look incredible, but its just not worth it to me. lifting and bodybuilding are just fun hobbies for me right now. I enjoy them a lot, and i think taking drugs would possibly ruin the excitement i get from making gains. I would feel like i took the easy way out and wouldnt be as proud of my accomplishments. just my thoughts.

a picture from back in April 2007 when I was getting ready for the show.

I wish I had tried pulling my arms back like I did in that recent photo. When I was ripped like I am in this pic I probably would have had a decent Christmas tree. In this pic you can still see it even when I'm standing relaxed.

i would say he is probably right, but sometimes its hard not to gain some fat while putting on weight. my suggestion would be to cut hard once a year to get rid of any excess fat you gained along the way. then start bulking all over again...

Got something wouldn't mind getting you or your brothers opinion on. The more and more I talk to people about bulking, the more people I hear advising to go on a bit of a dirty bulk for that initial size "blow up" for someone like myself who's been eating just about 4000 clean cals a day for several months now and have barely put on 10lbs. My metabolism is and always has been through the roof, I continue to be told that I always look like I'm about 4-5 weeks out of competition, which I am. Being my most weight right now at 196 @ 10% BF, and that being the highest BF I've ever achieved. My workout partner went on a dirty bulk himself for a while and he had great results from it, granted he did gain quite a bit of fat and made it up to 18% BF, but he's been able to hold a lot of his muscle he gained through his cut now. I do as of now plan on going on a dirty bulk because I want to give it a try because I figure it can't hurt, just might require a bit of a stricter cutting diet then I originally intended on doing. But I wouldn't mind hearing an opinion on the subject from someone like you or your brother who is actually a lot closer to my build (I'm 6'1"). I feel like its something that could be done once for an initial growth spur, but healthier to only do once and then in the future only go through clean bulks. Just wanting to pick your brain some! Thanks!

if you are going to go on a 'dirty' bulk, there is one thing you need to keep in mind. Protein is still the most important source. Some people fill up on sugary junk food and arent hungry enough to fulfill the protein requirements. The idea is to eat the maximum protein requirements first, and then to get "extra" calories in through carbohydrates.

Instead of eating a lot of junk, you may want to make small changes to your diet. For example...

1. Drink more milk...we usually drank a gallon a piece per day. we bought 14 gallons at a time when we went grocery shopping :)

Drinking a gallon per day isn't that difficult, just drink 2 glasses of milk every time you eat.

2. Eat more peanutbutter sandwiches. Eat a pb sandwich inbetween every meal. and before you goto bed.

Anyways, just some ideas. Sounds like you are doing fine if you are 196 @ 10% BF.

ill try to get another update in the next month. I may try to do another competition in April, but it really depends on my job. I graduate this December and start work in January, so I'm not sure where I'll be and how much time Ill have to devote to doing a show. I definitely want to compete again though.

Thanks for the tips bro. I will definitely try those..haha I may have to get a milk cow out back though to drink that much milk but I think I can handle it. I do plan on trying to limit the amount of "junk" that I do take in, but when I say junk, I'm meaning more like a lot more Chipotle burritos (stuffed with chicken) or Burger King whoppers to def. get in that protein.

Honestly my biggest problem, and I think you will soon realize this possibly with your future job (congrats on the graduation man, I'm a recent grad as well), is having the time to fit in all the meals! Anyways, thanks for those few tips, just might be what I need.

We must all be around the same age, which is cool. I'm an Industrial Engineer. I'll be working for an industrial construction company after I graduate. How about you?

I can't believe I just read this!!! Fast food is not a good idea. The only fast food I eat is pizza once in a while if im carbing up or just feel like cheating. stay away from fast food like the plague. :o)

it is tough to fit in meals. i worked underground in the coal mines over this past summer and it was long hard hours, so finding time to eat was difficult. I just packed a LOT of food in my GIANT lunch box. I had like 3-4 lbs of cooked chicken one day with 2-3 pb sandwiches. I'd have like 5-6 cans of tuna with wheat crackers and some other things on another day. I brought 18 boiled eggs on another day. I think you get the idea. Everyone in the coal mine would usually peak into my lunch box and talk about it throughout the day. They'd be spreading rumors about how much food i ate and everyone would have a good laugh about it.

i suggest doing something like this apposed to eating fast food.

I'd have like 5-6 cans of tuna with wheat crackers and some other things on another day. I brought 18 boiled eggs on another day. I think you get the idea. Everyone in the coal mine would usually peak into my lunch box and talk about it throughout the day. They'd be spreading rumors about how much food i ate and everyone would have a good laugh about it.

i suggest doing something like this apposed to eating fast food.
hahah sorry man I didn't mean to scare you there. I didn't mean eating burritos and whoppers on a daily basis multiple times a day haha I guess I worded that wrong. I just usually find it hard to have cheat meals because I usually don't feel right about doing it. When I said that I was meaning I really won't feel so bad having something like that 1 or 2 times a week if that because usually I only cheat 1 time every 2 weeks.

Your idea of drinking a lot more milk and more PB sandwich's honestly sounds like a great idea and I do plan on going with it. And the fact that you were a coal miner and were still able to bulk while doing physical labor inspires me, I'm glad you shared that little fact. Once again thanks for the help.

In physics,
Power = Work / Time

Substitution dictates:
Knowledge = Work / Money

Solve for Money which = Success:
Money = Success = Work / Knowledge

Thus, success is determined by the amount of work you put in so long as you maintain a certain level of knowledge :)
