as far as the show, i ended up placing in a few categories. got a couple 3rd places and a 4th place. i was happy just to place. it was a fun experience.

updates on whats going on right now, well, im back up in the 190's again and my strength is starting to take off, so im hoping to add some size. i still look pretty lean for my weight. i can see my abs, but there is some fat there too.

at 175 i dont really know what my body fat was. at 185 i was at around 6% when i got calipered, so i figure i probably lost a good bit more fat from 185 to 175, but probably also lost some muscle with it.

what amazes me is the amount of change that happens when you flex a muscle when you are ripped. the last two pics i post of the side relaxed and the side tri for example. in the relaxed shot my arm just looks really smooth, but when i goto flex it i get a lot of things happening. when i was fatter, there was still a change, but not like that.

when i still had a lot of fat to lose i would run 1 to 2 miles after each workout. if i felt tired that day i might skip the cardio.

once i started to get pretty lean, i cut back my cardio to 15-30 minutes. usually i would either run or jog. once i began to really see results i started using the stationary bike or eliptical machine for 15 minutes.

the reason i cut back on cardio time when i lost more fat is because i didnt want to burn muscle. that is also the reason i switched to the bike and the eliptical at the end. running is harder than those exercises because you are supporting your own weight more.

Man, that is amazing. About 4 years ago I lost 80 pounds and was still far from being anything like that. Congrats. What was your diet, calories a day, times a day you ate?

diet was pretty simple. i did it in stages and took my time. i think the same results can be produced much quicker if you just do everything you need to do from the very start, but i chose to gradually make the diet more difficult.

1. cut out sweets, soda, gatorade, and all other high sugar foods/drinks
- i did this until the progress slowed (approx. 3-4 weeks)

2. cut out all carbs, except post workout. you can still allow small amounts of carbs throughout the day from plain oatmeal or vegetables, but try to limit it to 100 grams or less. post workout you can have some simple sugars to restore glycogen.
- continued this for about 2 months

3. continue step 1 & 2, but cut out all high fat foods, with the exception of eggs.
- continued this for a couple months

4. continue steps 1-3, but now reduce calories to about 1500 to 2000 per day.

I usually ate every 2-3 hours. the amount of times per day would depend on how long i stayed awake during a day. i didnt cut out meals after a certain time. if it had been 3 hrs since my last meal, but was 2am in the morning, then i still ate a meal at that time.

if you have any other questions about the diet or exercise stuff let me know. im glad to share what i can and i hope it helps. ive been trying to help some of my buddies and they have been seeing good results also. one friend has lost over 50 lbs so far.

So when you were bulking, just curious what your diet looked like? Like did you clean bulk, but also allowed yourself some cheat meals here and there, or was it strictly clean bulking, or just a dirty bulk?? I know how to bulk, I just get worried about gaining too much fat so that is why I can't decide which bulk path I want to take in the next upcoming couple months. So just looking as to what some others have done.

I guess right now I would say I'm currently in a cut/maintain phase right now, so I am very lean and know exactly what you are saying when you said
"what amazes me is the amount of change that happens when you flex a muscle when you are ripped. the last two pics i post of the side relaxed and the side tri for example. in the relaxed shot my arm just looks really smooth, but when i goto flex it i get a lot of things happening. when i was fatter, there was still a change, but not like that."

I'm noticing the exact same things right now, makes me feel like I should be flexing alot more just to check it out!! haha Personally though, only reason I don't enjoy trying to be more cut is that I have that feeling of being "smaller" ya know? Anyways, ya look amazing, and keep up the hard work and progession!

when i bulked i just ate as much as i could. i tried to get protein in almost every meal, and would eat 6-8 times a day at least. i was eating a lot of junk though with my foods, so i think that is partially why i gained some excess weight. i always like to carb load a couple hours before each workout though to make sure i had plenty of energy to lift. at least when you get an excess of calories then you know you have enough for growth, but some of the growth will be fat. i think bulking should be done clean if possible, but i prefer to do a moderate approach that is somewhere inbetween clean and everything that you can possibly eat.

Thanks for the info man. I actually think I am going to go with the moderate approach that you also prefer, due to my naturally fast metabolism, it is rather hard for me to gain weight. I'm dieing right now eating so clean and cutting back on the carbs, this week I started to notice my strength going down some, however the cuts are really starting to come out. Thanks again though for the help!

hi,

"over this 8 months can i ask what did u change in your diet and training?"

as far as the diet, i already made a post explaining how i altered throughout the 8 months. it could be done in less time than that if a person wanted to though.

the training remained the same for a while, and then i started to increase the number of days i worked out per week from 4 to 6. I mixed up the exercises a lot to keep my mind from thinking about the "amount" i was lifting. if i was doing a new exercises i wouldnt have to worry about doing less than i did the time before.

i found though that it is best to probably continue to train with the same routine you are using and not to alter as i did. if you are going to alter it some, then alter the number of reps and sets, but keep the main exercises the same.

if you have a more specific part of the training you are interested in, then let me know and ill try to get you an answer.

i hadnt checked this thread in a while, so it sometimes it takes me a while to reply.

you could lose it in about 2-3 months if you dieted very hard and did cardio. i think i have posted the steps to my diet earlier in this thread, just go straight to the low carb, low fat part of the diet, and then slowly reduce calories of the 2-3 months.

i would suggest getting your bodyfat checked though by one of those electronic bodyfat tests. while they may not always be accurate, they seem to do a good job as long as you arent in the single digits for bodyfat. when i was around 210 it said i had about 40 lbs of bodyfat. so my lean body weight would be 170 lbs. when i lossed the weight i looked pretty much contest ready at around 175 lbs. So, you can get an idea of how much weight you will need to lose assuming you dont lose muscle along the way. At 180 to 185 i looked ripped with abs, so if you are just going for looking good but not doing a show, then you need to get within 10-15 lbs of your lean bodyweight.
