Hey, I started lifting seriously right after Labor Day, and have cut 35lbs since then. I want to compete someday, probably 2-3 years down the road. I am 5'9" 200lbs on the nose, 45 years old. Not an athlete, never was one. This is the first thing I have tried that I feel like I am pretty decent at, I wish I had started years ago

Here are a couple a pics of me. The one on the left is when I was at 235lbs, a before shot. Let me know if I have any potential, and what is strong and weak on me. I appreciate any constructive criticism

I am thinking that if I can figure out a famous bber, past or present who has a similar body type to mine, I could print out some pics of him and use his pics as a goal for myself.

Do you guys know of anyone I can try to emulate? I am 5'9"

Maybe 3-4 years from now I can look half that good.

there is no stoppin in this thing

keep up the good work old guy :) good improvement

Why dont you post your workout schedule and maybe we can help you improve on it to bring up specific body parts. By the way, congratulations on the transformation, you should be very proud of what you've accomplished so far.

Here is my almost daily diet:

Preworkout: 2 scoops Dave Draper Bomber Blend in ice and water, mixed in blender. Or 6 egg whites, scrambled with salsa over top, if I am not working out that day

PostWorkout: same except add 1/2 a banana

Lunch: zip pack of Starkist Hickory Smoked Tuna, bag of Birdseye Steam Fresh Broccoli, Carrots, Snow Peas and Water Chestnuts.

Snack: another pack of tuna, or another 2 scoops of protein in ice and water. I use egg protein powder, or ON Pro Complex in the afternoon and evening

Supper: usually chicken breast and broccoli, or the like

Snack: another protein shake or 6 oz of lean protein or 6 scrambled egg whites.

That is my low carb day.

I have been cycling carbs, so I eat more carbs than this on some days.

I average about 1800 calories per day.

BTW, I am down to 196 now since my first post

here are a couple more shots. The one on the right is obviously a before pic.

I am currently concentrating on compound movements as much as possible

I do only a few exercises each workout, but work pretty hard on them

Pullups, rows, pulldowns on back day. I have gone from being able to do zero pullups two months ago, now I can do 30 hammer grip ones, broken up into many 6-7 sets. I am going to start trying the normal grip pullups next

Incline, decline and flat bp, sometimes bb , sometimes db. And dips on chest day

Standing calf raises, walking lunges holding plates, was doing squats, but my SI joint is messed up, so I am going to try hacksquat machine instead. Also do bench stepups with a 40lb db sometimes

Occasionally do tricep pushdowns, ez bar curls etc, but not too often. I want to get my back, legs and chest developed, then move on to the smaller muscles

One suggestion on your diet is to switch your tuna to low sodium in a can. The sodium level in those pouches are crazy. Great progress. Do you know your body fat?

2-27 pics
I am down 9 lbs since the last pics. Legs are looking good, but upper body is wasting away. Oh well, it's hard to lose the fat and get bigger at the same time.

You say you have lost some upperbody muscle.
Were the pictures taken on the day you posted. If so this means you lost 9lbs in 2 weeks. Maybe you need to slow down the diet a bit. I have never had to go on any big diet so I don't really know but it seems fast.
You do look a lot younger now, great job.

It was actually 1/30 then and 2/27 for the now pics. So I lost 9 in a month, not too fast...I hope.

Thanks for all the props. It's cool to have you young guys say that stuff.

I had a couple of teenagers say they wish their dads would try a little harder to get in shape.

Wait another month or two, then I will really be shredded. I am not giving up until I get there.

Its good to see someone older that still has that mind frame. I hate to see these guys that say "Back when I was your age I used to do this and that" not many guys actually can say "right now i'm looking the best in my life"
