As old as I am I've tried almost every workout known to mankind. Split routines, pyramid sets, drop sets, super sets, giant sets, cheating sets, low rep, high rep, single rep, on and on and on. Once the base was built through these varying routines, I realized there was a lot of over-training in my youth. My present routine is:
Monday-Chest and Biceps
Tuesday-Back and Triceps
Wednesday-Legs
Thursday-Shoulders, Traps and Forearms
I use a variation of exercises rotating on a three to four week basis to be sure I hit each muscle group from different angles. I use 4 exercises by 5 sets on the large muscle masses with a rep scheme of 15, 12, 10, 8 and 6. On the small muscle masses I use 2 or 3 exercises by four sets with a rep scheme of 15, 12, 10 and 8. I do believe if you want to get big you've got to go heavy, but never sacrifice form for poundage. My diet is not the optimum for perfecting the leanest of physiques, but financial conditions warrant I eat what is not too expensive even though I ensure it is nutritional.
