I used to compete. Long time ago. Always worked out, but lately am looking to get back to where I was when I was in my thirties. Any input from guys my age would be great. (late 40s, and the pic is not super recent.)

welcome to the dungeon, good to see another old timer in the forums,, lol..
looks like you had a excellent physique in your avatar pic, how long ago was that? and where are you now in terms your body composition?

I actually still workout the same as i did when i started, with the exception of changing a few exercises in and out of my routines, but as for the reps and weight i go heavy for a few months, then change things around and go with lighter to moderate weights and reps,,
just because were older does`nt mean we cant train with the same intensity as we did when we were younger, its just harder to maintain a lower bf level with the slow down in metabolism is about all i have noticed..

hey, who you calling "old timer". I guess me, huh?
Well, it's true. I "take the fifth" on the exact age of that picture. But it was in the 90s.

Awesome avi man. I like to see people with your experience coming around here. What type of goals are you trying to accomplish now? Bulking?
