If your just getting started 2 things. First, don't expect huge results because at your age your body has a lot of room to grow and you probaly won't hit that peak until your 20's. But some people hit that peak earlier. Also, you should be able to notice what excerices hit certain areas of your muscles better than others. It's almost like a trial and error. Definitely don't be afraid to ask other guys in the gym if you see an area that they
