Hi everyone!!

I use to dab into heavy lifting and eating fairly well. However, I have been off from even lifting since I broke my arm. I busted it in half and now it is just getting it's strength and flexiblity back.

Considering the challenge I was having with my arm (and my love for eating ) I wasn't going to get back into it. Just some lifting 3 times a week or so and running every other day to keep my body in good shape. THEN I ran across some "Christians" who said I had to obey men, because I am the WEAKER sex physically and spiritually. Their argument is that Eve first sinned therefore women are more prone to sin and men are better able to control themselves...ummm kay.

Anyway, will you PLEASE help me out? I want to get my strength back up and eat well, but cheaply. I have a house payment, car payment, etc and work full time and go to school part time. However, I'm ready to kick it in gear.

I have some of my own equipment, very flexible (so I LOVE yoga), I run, and I have membership to a cheap gym. I eat mainly veggies, fruit, and chicken breasts...but I do love breads, so I "pig out" on breads once and awhile, but since I am a runner...it's healthy for me.

Will you help me not be the "weaker" sex anymore...I'm ready to get back in gear and think bodybuilding (naturally) will be a good path to take. Thanks a lot!!!

Welcome to the board! Hope we can give you the advise and support you need to keep you on your path (your a runner ..path...haha) anyway lol I wouldnt suggest anything to major in the way of lifting until your arm is properly healed. How long ago was this? There some more medically inclined people that can suggest proper healing times on here. So what experience have you had with lifting? Is that what your wanting advice on or mainly diet? What are your goals? Do you want to put on some muscle? work on strength? Certain areas? Here is good sticky to read thats in the nutrition section http://www.bodybuildingdungeon.com/f...mbination.html Sounds like you have you diet pretty good. Mabey need a bit more protein if chicken is all your getting for protein. Are you taking any vitamins or supps like Omega 3? Protein shakes? Mabey give us your stats and goals and more people pitch in helpful info. Cheers

Thank you so much, Islander! That "path" pun was cute!

I wouldnt suggest anything to major in the way of lifting until your arm is properly healed. How long ago was this? It was over a year ago and at the end of January my surgeon gave me the "okay" to lift and play on my bike again, but to listen to the pain. If it feels like the wrong kind-of pain or I'm not even sure if it is...back off. (I think I have it strong enough to try some serious lifting). I've almost got my arm straight again, but when I lift it over my head (such as a person would do when doing a military press) it will not stretch up too far. It's like there is some muscle that is not strong enough to push it all the way up.

So what experience have you had with lifting? I use to be a bad girl and lift for too long, but I loved the feel. I use to lift 3-4 hours a day and run 3.5 miles a day. (I don't know how I found the time). I'd usually write out a workout from what I would find on the Internet or a book and change find another one about every month. (If I didn't think there was enough on there...I'd add until I was wore out (and that would be 3-4 hours into the lifting).

So what experience have you had with lifting? Is that what your wanting advice on or mainly diet? I will take a workout and follow it with the best of my ability (using equipment I have and what the gym has). But my main deal with the lifting would be mainly encouragement and advice on what I should change or add more of. The diet will be a major deal. I am horrible with my diet and have no idea how to use food to work with me. I want cheap food (so I usually buy all value non-brand canned veggies, some frozen (non-brand) veggies and throw them together like soup. Then I cheat a little and buy grilled chicken breast (from Tyson) to eat. I don't buy this often, because it is too much for me to spend (since I have college loans I am still paying and all the other "fun" bills we all experience).

(I buy a bag of apples and some bananas to eat through the week, because they are not too pricey). I also buy frozen fruit and buy juice to make smoothies (I just add ice). I do have some protein powder and tried mixing this up with the smoothies and yuck. lol I also have some slim fast low carb drinks still left that I sometimes drink, because they have 20 grams of protein, actually taste good, and are cheaper (where I am living) than the "normal" protein drinks. Protein bars are VERY dry and hard for me to eat, but I do still have some left...they have 30-31 grams of protein.

What are your goals? Do you want to put on some muscle? work on strength? Certain areas? I want to work on strength mainly. I have a layer of fat on my stomach...not too much, but too much for me. I'd like to lose some of this, but would LOVE to lose it all to have a 6-pack. My arms are getting more sculpted since I don't lift as much and mainly run, so I am nervous to lift too much with my arms, because that is what I would REALLY love ...nice delts, biceps, and a pretty 6-pack. :)

Are you taking any vitamins or supps like Omega 3? I don't take supps anymore, because they were killing my liver. My dad and I both use to take them and then he had a lot of trouble. Doctors sent him to a surgeon and the surgeon told him to stop taking vitamins...so he did for about 2 weeks...came back and his liver was doing much better. The surgeon told me to stop as well, because my liver was trying to filter the vitamins and it was killing it. So, I try to make sure I have a variety of veggies and things to keep me as healthy as I can (without hurting my liver further).

Mabey give us your stats and goals and more people pitch in helpful info. My "Taylor-brand" scale says I am 134.8lbs with 27.3% body fat. I am 5'1 tall or short (lol). My goals...drop some body fat, so I can have my 6-pack and sculpted arms...while developing strength. I do not look fat, so a slow process I can deal with...I just REALLY want to get strong again and look physically better and better as time goes on.

Thank you again VERY much!!!

Well fist off, welcome to the boards! I hope your arms gets better soon. Keep the Yoga up I believe it will help in the process of the arm injruy. Keep the cardio going, but as far as weights.. I'd suggest staying away from them until your arm is COMPLETELY healed. You wouldn't want to risk further injury, especially with an arm since you use that for most of your uppder body exercises. So your goals are to gain muscle is that correct?

Thank you! My surgeon told me I can start lifting...just paying attention to the pain. He said it will take another 2-3 years to be completely healed and I am WAY too impatient to wait that long! I just have to back off if I there is something wrong.

So your goals are to gain muscle is that correct? Gaining muscle would be great! But the main goal (for now) is strength.

Welcome to the boards!

Nobody is going to know your body than you. And if your surgeon said you can begin lifting weights again, then why not right? Most important thing is to listen to your body, which I'm sure you know how to do. Just the slightest tweak could mess it up again. I'd be careful when doing anytype of overhead presses or bench presses, try to keep the weight light with those.

You could probably start doing exercises for lower body power for sure, and definately a lot of core exercises to get that six-pack you want!

As far as your diet goes, I'm a broke college student too! You can shop cheap and still eat a lot. As you mentioned earlier, just buy everything that's not name brand. I usually spend about $40 to $50 a week on food, which I don't think it's too bad, right?

Hope we're helpin ya out!!!

I am starting my workouts on Monday.

Here is my rough plan...is this okay for a start? (Not all my equipment at home is set up yet, so I will mainly use the gym).

*After work I will come home and do about an hour of Yoga

*Will have something that is mainly veggies/ might have some chicken with it

*Sleep about 8 hours. Then...

*will make a smoothie (juice, fruit, ice).

*Every other day: I will run/walk 5 miles on the roads (I work third shift so this will be afternoon/evening time)
*Every other day: I will workout at the gym (until I get all my equipment set up) Full body workouts Anyone have some ideas of what workouts I should do? I love free weights!!!

*will drink low carb slim fast for the protein (has 20 grams)

Note: If I get hungry at work...should I concentrate on eating those protein bars (I find them dry and hard to eat) or should I mainly eat fruit?

Thank you very much!!

looks just fine, except maybe try getting in a bit more protein, protein bars are not all that good for you, some are loaded with sugars,, better to try and bring your own foods to snack on, even some beef or turkey jerky would be a good option,
here is a link about training stuff for women, hope it helps

did you read that nutrition thread I link you to up there? Fruit is not good to sustain yourself. You should have some protein with every meal esp your main meals. Real food is always better then bars or shakes but cost prep and time usually mean shakes or bars for snacks. If you are just having a smoothie with fruit ice and water all that will do is jack you blood sugar which will then crash. This does not feed your body in anyway. The small amount of fiber you would get from the fruit would be the only benefit. If you are a runner and are running every second day and are still high in bf then diet is what you need to work on. Read that thread for ways to figure out what you should be getting and food suggestion ideas. Ive never done full body but a few guys on here do. You might get some ideas reading logs or training articles section or use the search feature. Hope this helps!
