Ok I am out of ideas need the dungeon. My girl is dropping weight fast. She has had eating disorders in the past and she is afraid of that again. She is going though postpartum because of recent events. Before she was 137 now she is 109 and still dropping. Any ideas on diets? She said before just to maintain her weight at 137 she was eating 2500 cal diet. What can we do to make her gain weight? I'm lost guys. Hell the girl can even eat big mac and not gain a pound but instead loose it.

Have her Dr assess her thyroid.

Other than that, honestly the only answer s to eat more. I know that one of the issues associated with depression is a loss of appetite, so that may be exacerbating things. How many calories is she consuming now?

Not real sure. We had doctor check her thyroid because thyroid problems run on her mom's side and they said it was normal.

hey steve,
how long has she been going through the postpartum ?? could be just that which is causing the weight drop, like mindstar said, it could have something to do with the depression,
or what ever emotional issues that are associated with having a baby,, all the hormones and stuff are probably in a flux right now , guess its hard to pin point since we dont know how long its been going on... dont mean to pry, but your last thread you started was your were going to be a dad>> just wondering how that went??

We lost it. At 5 months. Our world was turned upside down. She has been going through it since April 30th. We sill have our moments of being upset but we understand that everything happens for a reason. I just don't want her to loose hope in the gym to.

My condolences. I think you focus should be on making sure your girl is healthy and let the gym wait a bit if needs be.

I might have her (and you too) look into some counselling. There's no shame in getting help to get through a tragedy, and it may help.

My best to your partner and you during the hard times.

And that's natural man. I think you really have to listen to her and support her in whatever way she needs...which may change from day to day. The thing about depression is that it's not a linnear thing there are ups and downs and it may be as hard on you as it is on her. Reember to take care of yourself too.

One day at a time bro and I wish you two the best.

My condolences as well. I was picking up something not great had happened but didnt want to ask of course. So yep track the cals and see how much she is getting on average. That weight is pretty low and she has got some solid muscle on her so Id be worried she is losing muscle not just fat. If she is training like crazy might be good to go on a bulking diet and try not to do much cardio until she stops losing. Depression is weird sometimes you eat because you are depressed and sometimes you dont. Id grab a weight gainer shake and is it easy to take then eating solid food esp when you dont feel like eating. Peanut butter or almond butter in the shakes would be good too. Probably tough to think of now but im sure you guys will try agian and gotta get that womb nice and plumpy for the next one! My heart goes out to you guys and yes I believe too that everything happens for a reason.

Just take maintenence calories and bump them by 250 or so...start slowly and keep adding calories until her weight levels off.

say a 40/40/20% split of pro/carbs/fats.

ahh crap steve, really sorry to hear about your loss, stay strong bro, and keep talking things out between the two of you, the gym is such a great place to keep doing things together and also for the stress relief it brings, i`m sure words dont cover what your feeling, but my heart really goes out to the both of you..

If you can afford it, therapy should do a world of good.

Emotional issues suck and are really hard to deal with, I know. Fear of returning to a state of being that caused you torment will be with you forever if you let it.

But like others have said, start small. Where ever she's at now with foods, just increase SLOWLY and just make sure your goals aren't too high. All you have is time and in time you'll make progress.

I might suggest set up a reward system where she does good on some things so then she can do something she really loves to do. I don't know, like eat that big meal and then she can play the Wii for 30 minutes or something. You get the idea I hope. Something like that is good for people that need a little break in the routine or just a little push.

Wish you luck.

Thanks everyone. Right now she is looking for a meal plan that would help her gain some. We want to try again she knows and wants to be a little bit bigger than 109 pounds.
