Hey

ok i dunno if this is illegal for the board but oh well, let me know if i can or cant discuss this here.

This is about my download speed on uTorrent. I need a way to speed it up if anyone uses this can help me please. Initailly it wouldnt work then i figured out how to open and send to the port and to change my settings on the router and all. Now i use wireless on my laptop and can also use ethernet, but i dont think there will be a difference in speed if i were to switch to ethernet cable, or will it?
ne ways if anyone knows how i can boost it up even abit please HELP!!

Thank you So Much!

it usually depends on whose uploading the file and their speed. Every file downloads at different rates. I've had 4 gigs take 4 hours and other times 500mb take 12 hours.

I'm assuming you have 1Mb+ DSl/cable ?
Yes switching from wireless to fixed line should increase your "consistant" LAN speed as wireless tends to go up and down a bit and the protocol overhead is higher than for fixed line providing a smoother surfing experience.

eg. my PDA connects @11Mb but throughput is about 1Mb
wheras a fixed 10Mb lan can sustain 4Mbp.

But as said by others it's the speed provided by those with the "parts" of the file that's important.
Personally, I think torrents are rubbish, way tooooo slow and your Ip get's hits from others trying to get "parts" from you upto a week after you've stopped using it ! Just no need with high peed internet these days and barely usable even in the old K56 dialup days.

well my wireless is saying 11.0Mbps and considered Excellent. If i use the ethernet cable its at 100.0Mbps. The downloads are up at down. one second will go to 100kB/s then the next you see its at 4kb/sec. If it was consistent then it would be better but i dont think there is a way to fix this now!
Well if you dont want other to get the files from you, you can close the download and it wont do that and infact move the files else where. But if you are still downloading and its not 100% done then yes other IP's can connect with yours for transfer. The way it is designed is that the ratio of upload and download is 1:1
