Jay uses pro-tan. Jan Tana has sparkles in it and is mainly for female bb'ers and fit/figure girls.

I use ~6 coats of pro-tan and one coat of dream tan.

If you have watched Jay's new video, he does use Jan Tana On Stage competition color for the olympia with an airbrush system. I'm going to be using this method when I compete in Sept. I also wrote to Jay which he replied with the above recommendation. Try it out b4 hand.

i dont meen this in a bad way at all, but it depends on how black you are. lol. i've heard of some african american athletes using two or 3 coats, and some are dark enough to where they dont have to use any. most just put on some oil

Ya, I just used it for my last contest prep and loved it. Didn't use the airbrush system because it is too damn expensive but 3 coats on top of something else I did came out nice. I would post a pic, but I can't get it small enough.

Sweet. Thanks Hulk for the feedback. I actually got lucky and have an artist in the family which had a never used airbrush system and handed it over! I will be using this method for my competition in Sept!

Solid advice - I would more or less use the same approach...

Unless you are really black you will wash out under the spotlights. As long as you don't come in looking like the bronze statue you want to win you'll be fine with the "fake" stuff. Dream tan is normally what gets people into trouble with their color....

I used Jan Tana show tan, competition tan and face bronzer for my show. Put on two coats of show tan Friday night and on coat of the face bronzer - do not put show tan on your face - looks like charcoal. Saturday morning I put on two coats of competition tan and one more coat of the face bronzer. If I could do it again I would not have put the second coat of the face bronzer on. After pre-judging wiped of the oil with a towel which took of some of the tan so I put one more coat of competition tan on in the afternoon. I could maybe have been a little darker, maybe one more coat in the morning, but the color looked good - one of the more experienced guys at the show wanted to know what color I had used because he really liked it - so I figure it must of looked allright. Most guys were smearing dream tan on, that stuff just looks like no fun - but that's just me.
