My friend wants to do a show in three weeks. He looks closer to 6 weeks out. He told me he knows his conditioning wont be a 100% but he really wants to do it. He said he wants to walk through stepping on stage, posing and all of the other things associated with a contest. I told him that a lot of the competition is also preparing for it mentally and cardio and training tired as well as that other stuff. He says he doesn't mind he just wants this to be something to help him for his next show in the spring where he will really get serious. I told him he should wait and give himself some time to prepare himself to be 100%. He still said he wanted to do it.

I also talked to a pro natural bodybuilder and my bro who both have competed and they both think its a bad idea. I honestly don't see too much wrong with it if he keeps his expectations reasonable but I think its still something I wouldn't do. For anybody who has competed or has prepped somebody for a show what do you think? Or anybody that wants to put in some input thats cool too.

I'm all for telling him to do it if he wants to do it. Why would it be a bad idea to step up there?

If he starts working in the gym and working his nutrition like he is 3 weeks out, he'll come in decent shape if he is only 3 weeks behind. He won't win, but he might be happy with his placing. Plus it's a fantastic experience. He could learn an amazing amount of information just by watching what other people do backstage. Also, getting on stage is just plain fun. The only reason I would talk him down is because it can be expensive, but if that's not a problem for him, then tell him to get to work, he only has 3 weeks!
