I'm 21, been lifting seriously for 2 or 3 years, and have thought about competing in the next year or two. My problem is that I'm 6'1" and would be up against guys that are 5'8". I'm currently around 190 @ 11-12% bf.

My question is; How much lean mass would I really need to add to have a chance competing at my height?

Any advice is welcomed.

I'm 6'0, it kinda sux being that tall, but once you fill your frame out you would look fine. i think a competition weight of 200lb's would make you look fine for a mens novice, you said your waiting a year or two to compete so that hsould be pleanty of time to add ~ 15lb's...assuming your bf% is correct.

dont go off what your weight is, go off how you look. some people hold weight a lot differently than others. look at serge nubret, he was 6'0 and weighed 200 lbs, but he was massive

That's damn good advice.

You could be 6' 2" and have really really small bones, a small waist, and small wrists and you'll look great at 215+ if you have a low body fat. You might not be massive, but on stage you want to create a massive illusion which is easily achieved with a small waist and small joints, good luck to you brother.
