Hey,
I have heard of people instead of really concentrating on cardio sessions and minutes and number of times a week have simply just aimed to burn say 1,000 to 12,000 calories a week based on bodyweight is this a good idea? For example, to just do whatever kind of cardio you have to do to burn 1,000 calories in a one week span so if I add all my cardio sessions together thus far this week I have burned 855 and should try and burn 145 in my next and final session of the week. This all of course depending on bodyweight and number of calories consumed throughout the day? This seem sensible at all? thanks

I dont keep exact track of them. i keep track of my calories from food, but from everything else i dont worry about. an exaple would go like this, you can estamate calories, but there isnt a reason to worry to much about it.

mon-eat 1500, burn ~500 with weights, ~600 with cardio.

tues-eat 1200, burn ~ 400 with cardio

wed- same as monday

thurs-same as monday

friday- same as tues

saturday-same as monday

sunday- eat 2000 calories, burn ~500 with wieghts, ~600 with cardio.

thats just an outline pretty much. right now im almost 2 weeks out, so my calories change depending on what im doing that day.

The other problem too is that the machines that give youthe number probably are not that exact (hence gumbys use of ~) Ive heard this in like every PE class Ive been in (Its safe to lose 1 pound per week, blah blah blah, which is 3500 calories diveded by 7 days equals 500 calories a day, from either deficit of diet or cardio, or both). I use the calorie counter on the treadmill as a point of reference. This allows you to change the length of your sessions and still get the same result.

Question for Gumby
Do you do the morning walks before meal #1. I've read allot about it, both pros and cons with it. You burn like 70% faster than after any meal, but to walk on empty stomach seems to me a little catabolic.

Just wanna know what you think of it.

As with all the other calorie counting I do it only with my food, I dont trust the calorie meters on cardio machines such as bikes and treadmills. I just mostly go for like 45 min for one session and then watch what happens.

If your gonna do it in the morning then dont go over 30 minutes. Some ppl like to do it for an hour, and i think its to catabolic like you said. 30 minutes shouldnt do you any harm...some ppl may dissagree with me on this.
