The Tanning procedure

*All tanning procedures vary depending on skin tone/type, everyone is different.
** I have never used any Jan tana products, so I cannot give any help on them. Sorry.
*** Always assume the show is on Saturday unless I say otherwise.

Products needed:
2 bottles of pro-tan “instant competition color”
(its better to have extra then not enough)
1 container of dream tan #2
Extra sponge brushes
Exfoliator (any brand works)
Oil of some sort (most use PAM cooking oil, they make oil specifically for posing to)

Sunday- Begin taking two showers a day if you don’t already. Go to the store and get yourself some exfoliater. Use this during your first shower. After your second shower dry off and use some sort of moisturizer over night.

Monday and Tuesday- Use the same technique as Sunday unless it’s irritating your skin.

Wednesday- now the fun begins. Start off the day by shaving everything….yes, everything. You can do this however you like, with a razor, waxing, Nair, ect..
Once that is done take a shower, and exfoliate one last time. Make sure to bath really well, this is the last time you will be using soap in the shower.

Once out of the shower dry off very well. You will need someone to help you with this, a girlfriend/boyfriend would be best. But it’s up to you. Take a bottle of pro tan and pour some into a bowl of some sort, I use a cool whip bowl. You could use a paper bowl to, just don’t use one that you like, it will stain. Just pour in a little. Use the brush, and start from the feet up, standing in a bath tub/ shower is the best place possible to do this. Do one streak with the brush that has the tan on it, and then once it’s on, blend it with the side of the brush, or another sponge brush. Continue this process along the your whole body. DO NOT COLOR THE PALMS OF YOUR HANDS AND SOULS OF YOUR FEET! Also, only color the tops of your feet/hands with one or two coats. Stop after the neck, leaving the face un covered.

All this should be done in the morning.

At night, once your done with your day, go home, shower off the excess tan (remember, don’t use any soap in your showers at this point) and repeat the process. Make sure the sheets on your bed aren’t ones you like, you’re going to get them dirty.

To wash your hair, have someone help you do it over a sink/bath tub. Any soap waches off too much tan. So keep it off your neck, chest, ect..

Thursday- start the day off with a shower to get rid of the excess tan you had on overnight. Then start the process all over again. (get out of shower, apply tan, go through day, shower at night, and apply another coat of pro-tan). Don’t put anymore on your hands/feet. Stop at face again.

Friday- Start the day off with a shower. Put on another layer of tan. This time do a LIGHT layer on your face make sure not to get it in your eyes. Go through your day, shower, apply another coat on body and face.

Saturday- buy this time you should be pretty damn dark. Wake up early , if you even went to sleep. Showering is a personal choice. But you wont be applying anymore tan until your backstage. Put another light layer on your face to even it out.

*if you put on another coat of pro-tan in the morning, it will probably smear or run some time before pre-judging.

Backstage- take your tub of dream tan. Have someone backstage help you put it on (some shows have people who will do it for you, some don’t, if they don’t , ask someone who looks like they know what their doing). One coat is all you need, it will blend in any smuges that the pro-tan left over night. You will have a lot of extra left over. Now, once your done pumping up, or whatever your backstage routine is, have someone lightly spray you with some Pam. Hold the can far away (about 3 feet) and lightly spray it. Then rub it in a little bit. Try not to get a lot on your hands.

Now you should have a nice , tan, shiny body to show off, so go onstage and have fun with it.

Ask any questions in the thread or PM me,

if you put too much on it looks like crap. but it washes off better the pro-tan (from your skin)....it stains anything else though.

Good infos thx. But it's not necessary at all to put so much effort With the newer products (like dream tan etc.) 2 layers on the contest day are enough. Look for example at Federov at last years Olympia press conference. One day before the contest he looked like an Albino, next day he had a colour like Ronnie.

Pro tan just sucks (being carefull not to touch anything or anyone for 4 days ).

yeah, federove also blurrred half his definition, looked gold, not tan, and tied for last place........

a little effort goes a long way.

showering prevents the pro-tan from staining anything. for the most part you should lay down towels on seats, couches ect., but its not just going to come off like wet paint.

a lot of people will still say you need to tan, alot of black pros still use products.
Side note...jan tana is not the greatest I used it for my last show and was not all that pleased with the way my tan came out, looked kinda "dirty" up close, but fine on stage, people said i lost color going into the night show too, but don't know what that's about

I LOVE JanTana products!! If they are good enough for Jay Cutler they're good enough for me.

However, I do not use the JT you can buy from BB.com or anywhere else. I only use the products sold on the JanTana website.

Why? you have no earthly clue how old the BB.com stuff is or how it has been stored. If it has been exposed to heat for too long or is too old it will get a green cast to it.

By buying on her website you get current product not old crap and you get her money back promise of quality.

I also use most of her products too, exfoliator, depilitory, Comp tan and Show tan too. For oiling up prior to going on stage I use something from Sally Beauty Supply called Olive Oil Sheen it works great and doesn't glare you out like Pam can.

All in all JT products are great stuff and the dark dark stuff comes off after the Comp and leaves a nice golden color that wears off nicely, not like ProTan that wears off in huge patches, starting with your armpits.

I want to just comment on how important the mousturizer is for this. I didn't use it enough through out the week, and due to the cold wintery weather, my skin is still severely dry. It's been getting better with excessive mousturizing now, but do it beforehand and prevent yourself some hassle.

I know this is an old post but im new to this site and i have a question, it probly has an obvious answer but idk. Well wouldn't it be easier to just go outside and tan, or maybe go to a tanning salon or something? Seems easier to me....

no way in the world could most normal ppl get stage tan by tanning, huge difference. take a look at comp. bodybuilding shows and you will understand. i could tan everyday for a year and never get that dark, that is why the lotion is used. difference is night and day.

I tan almost everyday for last few weeks before a show just to get a base tan.All the products look much better if you have some sort of tan to begin with.
Like dapack said you cant get that stage tan by laying in the sun a few times.
