i know its not a whole lot but it was towards the end of my workout on shoulder day. not a day i go all out on shruggs, but what ever. its at one of the most hardcore gyms in the bayarea about 2-4 months ago. medinas gym in hayward, ca.

Nice form. I hate doing front shrugs, the bar always presses against my thighs too much.

i try to do as many as i can with out them but my grip just starts failing. mostly my right, i dont know why. thanks for the feed back.

What you need to do is to drop the straps. Trust me. Dumbells work great for grip strength. At first I couldn't hold up the 100 pound dumbells that long, especially with my left arm, but on machines I was shrugging in excess of 300 with no problem. For me, the thinner bar on the dumbell really pushed how much grip strength I had. I only really stick to dumbell shrugs as it is. My gym has up to 150 pound dumbells.

Straps can be good IMO. When hitting a weight that you can barely hold onto for example for me is 405 straps can help you get the maximum workout from your traps. Unless you never train your forearms and grip then focusing on grip in other exercises can lead to cheating the other muscles.

mostly i do them on back day, where by the end my grip is not gone, but not the best. i do them on back day so i dont feel so fatigued in my upper body.
