whats the weight difference on the smith machines. I remember using it for squats<ill never do this again> and being able to hit 8 plates each side for reps. Im guessing it varies from smith machine to the next.
in kevin videos he uses smith shoulder press as well, makes you wonder if he does that in the off season or just pre contest cause he looks like hes under 6% in all his videos

in my gym u only count the wt added, the bar wt has counter balance. 8 plates would be 360lbs. That is still a massive amount of wt for shoulder press

I remember watching that video, he was doing 3 plates on each side on the smith machine, and he says, "here is 315 lbs and I'll do this for reps." not sure if the last part is accurate but i remember him saying here's 315 lbs. makes me wonder if there is a weight difference

In all my experience with using the smith for over two years I've come to realize that free weights enable me to push through the plateau's I use to have when I strictly used smiths. It may not happen to everyone but when I used those smiths my satablizers never got any work done to them. After realizing this I've noticed ALL my lifts from military to bench to incline ect ect have all increased dramatically. Contest time is perfect for machines and smith due to injury prevention.

The bar weight is about 15 pounds, it's not a full 45 pounds, so it's about 375 actual pounds.

I can only lift that weight one rep.

I go down till my elbows hit parallel then press up.

I'll try to get a video next week and see if I can get a camera, I used my cell phone on that and the length of video is too limited. Maybe I'll make one repping four 45's or six 45's for reps.

Thank you, I owe a lot to the members on here by keeping me motivated and trying for higher goals, 10 months lifting straight now without slacking

When I first started that lift in January this year my max was 4 - 45's x3 reps, I'm gonna do a video and go for some serious reps on that weight, see if I can hit 40 or 50 reps

We all gotta start some where. 185x6 is a good start, I've been working on it 10 months and made a lot of progress, you'd be surprised how much you go up when you keep going for new goals.

Wonder what the correlation is...

Ragen, when you use weight you can rep, do you go below parallel? Thinking about just going to parallel, it seems like a partial rep.. Actually it seems like maybe 50% of full ROM. I know in my BB Presses, I bring the bar down to my chest..

Also, how about the stress on the shoulders in doing these?

Good weight nonetheless.. Wanna see that video, man!

My range of motion from locked out to all the way down and stressing my shoulder is about 15", I take out the bottom 2" so I am basically doing a slightly below parallel from the elbow up lift. This for me is perfect since going below that point regardless of the weight seems to just put a stretch on my shoulder and cause discomfort in my joint.

So if I had to guess I would say it is about 85% of the actual range I can lift, excluding the part that seems to be uncomfortable. If you remember Primes video of him pressing 100# DB's you see that he stops a little below parallel, this is the same range I use to give you an idea. I go just below parallel then press up and stop a hair before lockout.

As far as doing BB shoulder presses, I honestly haven't tried them much since I workout alone and it's at a college gym and honestly there isn't a lot of strong people there I would trust to spot a lot of weight over me on.

As far as a correlation, I know one thing, 8 - 45's is heavy regardless of what smith it's on, just try to shoulder press it you'll believe me

I'm still working on getting a camera for my video since it'll be longer and I want to try a lot of reps with a good amount of weight.
