Ragen, when you use weight you can rep, do you go below parallel? Thinking about just going to parallel, it seems like a partial rep.. Actually it seems like maybe 50% of full ROM. I know in my BB Presses, I bring the bar down to my chest..
Also, how about the stress on the shoulders in doing these?
Good weight nonetheless.. Wanna see that video, man! |
My range of motion from locked out to all the way down and stressing my shoulder is about 15", I take out the bottom 2" so I am basically doing a slightly below parallel from the elbow up lift. This for me is perfect since going below that point regardless of the weight seems to just put a stretch on my shoulder and cause discomfort in my joint.
So if I had to guess I would say it is about 85% of the actual range I can lift, excluding the part that seems to be uncomfortable. If you remember Primes video of him pressing 100# DB's you see that he stops a little below parallel, this is the same range I use to give you an idea. I go just below parallel then press up and stop a hair before lockout.
As far as doing BB shoulder presses, I honestly haven't tried them much since I workout alone and it's at a college gym and honestly there isn't a lot of strong people there I would trust to spot a lot of weight over me on.
As far as a correlation, I know one thing, 8 - 45's is heavy regardless of what smith it's on, just try to shoulder press it you'll believe me
I'm still working on getting a camera for my video since it'll be longer and I want to try a lot of reps with a good amount of weight.
