what is best big or perfect body? LMAO

the question is highly BIASED and HYPOCRITICAL in itself just like the author of the article

the sport of bodybuilding is all about being FREAKY while still remaining defined and esthetic and some would argue that the marojity of today's top bodybuilders aren't as esthetic as the bodybuilders of the 70s or 80s thats fine because BB is subjective but many would also say that Tom Cruise is more esthetic than Gunter or Arnold Schwarzenegger

what im trying to say is BB will always be a fringe sport because it is a SUBJECTIVE sport and however hard i try i can't fathom presendent George Bush, my boss my neighboor or my non-bodybuilding friends saying "hey mate wanna go to a bodybuilding show tonight"
its just not going to happen trying to make BB mainstrem is like going on a wild-goose chase

the author saying that BB needs to go back to its root or it will always stay an underground fringe sport is just plain idiotic.
he's so intent on making the sport mainstream that he is attributing the physiques of todays athletes to the unpopularity of the sport
what a dickwad!
Just like any sports BB it's about improvements and breaking records that have previously been set, i wouldnt be as inspired by the sport if i was seeing the same types of physiques that was present in the 70s or 80s and few would argue that today's top bodybuilders have improved greatly over the bodybuilders of the past in terms size, definition and hardness and YES esthetics

now Ronnie Coleman could have verywell rested on his laurels when he won the 1998 mr olympia title by working with the same weights and intensity but he had opted to break new grounds and dickheads like the author of this article are blaming him for it

if you look at Arnold Shwarzenneger or Mike Mentzer posing by themselves or next to their contemporaries sure they look amazing but if you put them on stage with the likes of Ronnie Coleman and Flex Wheeler they would be lucky to even place in the top 10

IMO with all due respect the bodybuilders of the past are nowhere near as good today's BB

now why should BB go back to its roots again?

Fair point. But surely your statements are just as subjective as the other post. It's all about opinion as to what is better!

Body beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

point taken

but the other guy is suggesting that the sport of BB should go back to its root which in my opinion is like going from today's technology to primitive technology
its like stopping all progress
IMO an athlete's ultimate goal is to break records that have previously been set and the only way for a bodybuilder to do that is being more freaky yet we're blaming them for doing that

I know what you're saying, and I don't disagree, and I agree to a point. But there has to be a balance - if you look at the which year was Ronnie best thread - theoretically it would be 2005 if he's "improviong" each year, but the majority of people said 2003 - it's all about the package!

And I don't mean his penis.

I disagree longstreet. I am not a hypocrite for suggesting that I prefer a physique like Bob Paris' over someone like say Ruhl. They are totally different but if asked 100 guys which body they would prefer I estimate 75% would go for Paris' look. And if you asked 100 woman I'd estimate 99% would go for Paris' physique.

Sometimes for the sake of SAFETY we need to take a step backwards just like the did in F1 car racing.

As for the BB of the past being inferior that is only due to training, diet, steroid and supplement technology, any champion of the past would be a champion now given the same technology.

And bodies like Arnolds, Sergio, Franco are still unobtainable to the likes of you and I so why do we need freaks? There are very few guys these days that have better aesthetics then the champions of the past......after all that is basically all they had if you take your view.

It does not matter what you build.....a house, a ship, a skyscraper, a plane or your body, you build it for longevity, practacality, stabillity and also beauty. You do not take big chunks of things put them together and call it a building of beauty it is a structure at best. 300 lbs bodybuilders won't last long career wise look at whats become of Wheeler and others who have and will push the limits.

I would prefer to look at nice cut, symetrical and yes large muscled BB (Paris, Demey, Strydom) instead of a freak like Ruhl who would be better suited to play "THING" off Fantastic 4 instead Conan The Barbarian.

I think Arnold ,Sergio, and Zane were amazing for there times and I admire them all. However, with each passing decade a new standard replaceD the old. Arnold far surpassed previous champoins and so did Yates. Although 300 lb is a bit much, it does not mean we should move backwards to the smaller guys.
When Micheal Jordan move the game of basketball foward several level we did not then ask future players to stop jumping that high or dunking so much.

BB is a macho sport. It is meant to impress; and big is what is in.
Stop bitching and start lifting!

i pretty much fully agree with mrlongstreet on this one...I mean this is just the reality of BBing today - that size conquers a smaller yet more symmetrical physique. And yes - BBing is all about progression so therefore the answer is not for BBing to go back to it's roots but for it to exceed and transcend the present... However that occurs I don't know but again I agree with what's been said about the challenges of BBing going mainstream due to its apparently attatched social stigma...

Bro I'm 5'7 and am around the 230lb mark coming back for 9months off a 5 year layoff.......trust me I ain't the one bitchin and I lift plenty.

Ruhl can live as long as he wants, he ain't goin to win shit!! Period.

You guys think this mass thing will last, you are wrong, once Ronnie and Jay are gone you are left with guys like Priest, Dexter, Gustav etc etc none are mass freaks. I don't mind a guy looking big as long as there is quality...oh and no gut.

It is obvious that like boxing a great big man will beat a great small man, I am not alluding from that fact, my only point is that by having these mass freaks only creates a greater devide from the general public and whilst that happens they are all going to continue to get shit money.

Keep in mind, I think the Paris pic is the only one after 1980. I know they are not as big as Ronnie and they are not as ripped as Dexter, but have a look and tell me "honestly" you guys don't admire these physiques, tell me "honestly" you guys don't think you would be Impressed to see these guys in person and then tell me "honestly you would not be happy to at least look like one of these guys.

looool hope all these work now guys.

The one below is from the "50's" I'm impressed anyway.
