How big were body builders of the 80s? well Ill tell you. Samir Bannout won the 1983 MR O at 188 pounds yes that’s no type –o I said 188 pounds 2nd place went to mohamed makkawy at a wopping 160 pounds 3rd place went to the new big freak Lee haney at 230 pounds but shape was king in the day not mass it was one of the last contests judged like a body building contest should be. It wasn’t a freak show like today shape and
symmetry meant something back then. Look at Markus Rhul, you can not tell me for one second hes symmetrical. He is a beast of muscle for sure, but top 10 MR.O material I think not.
Lets face it bodybuilding has left its roots. That being building the perfect body. Not the massive freak show we have today. If bodybuilding doesn’t revert back to its roots ,it is going to stay an underground fringe sport. Its dam hard to make a living from bodybuilding and what todays up and comers will do to make it is scarry. I talked to one kid said he didn’t care if it took 8g a week he was going to be a pro. The dipshit was serious too.
As things stand today there is no way any sane person could have delusions of being a pro or coming close to the development of the bodybuilding stars Coleman was what 293 this year? IM sure he runs over 325 off-season. Look at the little guys in the big O even they are around 240-250 and about 5ft5-5ft-7. Today’s pros are freaks all of them and they are pushing it to the limit. A pair of 20in arms doesn’t even carry weight any more many pros are in the 21-23 range, backs have become landing strips and legs are now so big some can hardly walk without looking funny.
Ofcourse the big question on the net is (what are the pros taking) well many are taking less than anyone would believe. Most pros would be bigger with no gear than most people on the net taking 1-2g of test a week. Oh sure there are a couple that down gear like water but most pros are the guys you see with 15in calfs and 17in arms at 19 that’s why you just add a small amount of gear and instant super freak. Now don’t think for one second IM taking anything away from them. I know they still have to bust their ass, but you have to face facts. Todays pros are genetically superior to even pros of 15 years ago. Hell Arnold couldn’t even win the U.S.A.s with the legs he had.
There was some drug use in the early days. I remember reading where Larry Scott and Boyer cole called a meeting at Golds to talk if it was safe to go from one 10mg tab of d-bol to two sounds funny now considering what the average joe thinks is a low dose cycle.
Lets face facts if you are eating well /training hard taking 2g of test a week and its like your 4th cycle and your not 240 cut guess what YOUR NOT GOING TO BE. If you need a boat load of gear to put on 25 pounds give it up.
As impressive as today’s pros are no longer do I wish to look like them . However I do like keeping up with the scene and following the contests but it seems to have losts its flair and IM starting to wonder how much further can it go. Will there ever be an over 300pound Mr.O?
Even so don’t be discouraged anyone can build an impressive amount of muscle threw hard training and good diet regardless if anabolics are used or not. Through the use of steroids and insulin even at low dose we can still look like the stars of old. IM still shooting for Arnold lol
