Bingo, then there are certain guys that even seem to respond to steroids better than other individuals.

I'll try not to sound like i'm disproving any religious texts or making stickman arguements, all though some of what I write might sound that way.

I don't think that a god designed the universe personally and if god designed everything then there are some things he missed out on if he is the best. As for exluding evolution from religion i'll be a bit more specific and It sounds like you're a proponent of intelligent design if you are I ask.

Why do organisms have vestigial organs?

And as a follow up to that, if a god had a clear cut plan for everything with vestigial organs why do they still exist?

Why do proccesses like vision need to be corrected in the brain? When we capture images in the eye they are inverted and the brain needs to adjust them, if there was a creator why put the extra strain on the brain and not just cause evolution to produce a lens to invert it to normal?

Vestigial organs are leftover byproducts of evolution. Its why our spines aren't completely straight, because they haven't totally evolved out of walking on all fours yet. What I'm suggesting is that god used evolution as a mechanism for creating people. People who say the Earth is 6000 years old are idiots. I totally understand your point.

Determined 08
: I have a question for you. If god is god, which, by definition, is an omnipotent, all knowing, all powerful formless being, WHY does god need to be male???? God doesn't need a penis, ITS GOD. God can do whatever god wants to do because its all powerful. Don't you think that the MEN who wrote the bible just wanted to give themselves a little extra credit by putting a bunch of stuff in there about god being a man??

Thought process of people who wrote the bible:

"Where did I come from? How did I get here? Clearly, it must be from a supernatural being. And because I'm the strong one, and tend to do a lot of the hunting and stuff, this god must be male. It couldn't be any other way."

Doesn't that sound ridiculous?? Just because the bible says something doesn't make it true. I'm not saying the bible is worthless. I'm saying that the PEOPLE who INTERPRET RELIGION are idiots, because they do it for their own agendas. The catholics did it (crusades), the muslims did it, everyone does it. Its bull. Think about it.

For me the key word there is interpretation... right on the money. I think that the bible is completely open for interpretation. think about it, for example, not all people who follow the koran or however you spell it thinks its right to blow people up, its about how its interpreted. And the catlolic church preaches about the sins of man and the ten comandments but if you walk into a church whats the first thing you see? a big picture of a man with a beard... whos to say jesus looked like that???? he may have been black, or asian, or indian. wouldnt that fall under a certain ten commandment.... worshiping false idols. IMO god was ment to be worshiped on faith not on a picture of some guy that man thinks jesus looks like. My grandmother is about as religious as it gets, and she never goes to church, because she believes god is everywhere and she doesnt need to go to " the house of the Lord" to pray or give thanks to him. like i said its all about how the bible is interperated. IMO. hope i dont offend anyone, lol

To their defense, iconography in religion was and still is important to express religion. The image of jesus is different from region to region, some regions he has red hair, blonde hair, black hair, brown hair, dark skin, light skin. It reflects on the region where judeo-christianity is preached. My understanding would be that it is not worshipping false idols, just their depiction of what one of their idols looks like.

ya many catholics know that the bible is not based on historical facts, and that jesus was not a white, blonde haired, blue eyed man. we believe the bible is 'truth' not fact (too much to explain) and that it is inspired by God written through man. and also, any christian who is not naive or ignorant knows that jesus would not actually look like the modern day depictions portray him, at thomas said its a cultural relative thing

I understand what your saying... but why put a face to Jesus if no one even knows what he looked like. It makes no sense to me, not sayin its wrong, its just me. And no one misunderstand my skepticism, i in no way think any religion is better then the other. I just find it strange that as you said his pic is different in different places, and why the different rules between catholic and Anglican and so on. they all read the same book don't they? so why the inconsistency? sorry for all the questions, just curious. I dunno much about it so i like to get more informed rather then pretend that i know more then i do,lol

Hey guys... the Bible is written in parables so it can be interpreted. If you don't believe in God, fine, everyone comes to religion at their own times. God Bless!

It's the same way as if I took all the letters off of your computer. You would be able to navigate it simply because you know which icons lead to what. It's not weird to have different depictions of someone, it makes it easier to relate to. And as for the different rules, different people put different emphasis on everything.

Its the same as if there is a democracy in a set of countries, in every country where there is democracy there is a different form of democracy.

ya like i said anyone who is even somewhat educated in (christian) religion would know that Jesus was dark skinned, dark haired, etc. so technically he should be depicted that way, but its a cultural thing so often times he is not

No, singularities describe a point in space where the rules of physics start to break down and things run into the realm of "infinite".
everytime i take a ****, a star becomes unstable....so im causing things to be created with that theory... whered the unstability come from? we arent able to truly comprehend where we came from

What you said colloquially is a theory, scientifically its a hypothesis. Scientific theory needs to have some sort of proof that is relevant and can be tested and have its results repeated in different setting.

There is proof that there was a massive explosion that began the universe such as background radiation, star systems that travel in ways that can be calibrated out of an explosion directionally, the red shift of systems that are moving away from earth.

The universe by nature is very chaotic, stars explode by natural procceses, black holes emit radiation that slowly dwindles their size. I don't think it's out of the question that a singularity either by its own building pressure exploded/imploded whatever the case may be or by rogue forces produced within it.

Not an explosion. Its a period of rapid expansion. Two very different things.

I would really appreciate it if everyone read this, and put some thought into it. Please read.

In 1990, the Voyager 1 spacecraft photographed the planets of the solar system from outside the orbit of Pluto. This photo shows the earth (tiny dot just left of the white line) from 4 billion miles away. (The streaks are not real; they are caused by sunlight glare in the camera.) Astronomer Carl Sagan wrote of this photo:

"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader", every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

...Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

...There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."

From : pale blue dot

The only PROOF I need. Its called faith.

Amazon.com: The Holy Bible King James Version: King James Version Economy (9781565633254): Hendrickson Publishers: Books

Agree to disagree. Like someone said on here earlier I think no one is gonna have their mind changed unless their looking for that. I respect all you guys cause Christ told me to love everyone including you guys (not to sound gay don't take it wrong)

Im glad to see a healthy discussion and notice that MOST of you seem to have an open mind.

I think Athiest are cut up into two big groups. One being the group that seeks to cut down religion at any cost and the other group that just doesn't involve themselves with religion. I'm more agnostic, so perhaps my views tend upon the fact that when in terms of religion I won't debate anything doesn't directly break a natural law of the world.

your opinion man, glad to see no one on here is being a d*ck to the other group about what they believe. did you ever study philosophy tho? many of the greats firmly believed and reasoned that there has to be a God.

again alot of people misrepresent their 'side' on issues. there are alot of crappy people who are christian, and i bet you would agree there are alot of athiests who seem to hurt the cause they are fighting for.

personally i think athiests are sometimes the best 'christians' in the way they act. alot of athiests believe there is no afterlife, so this is their only shot at a life, and are better people because of it.

same with christians, man.there are some are radical, crazy, and wrong, and there are some who arent haha. its a shame people dont see the athiests like you, or the christians like some of us who chimed in here. you only hear about the crazy ones bc theyre the only ones who give a good story to the press.

.
Three great points.

I've been a steady athiest for about 2 years, more so since when my father died but I had been going into it since my early teens. I was raised catholic however, i'm italian, thats just what happens in italian families. Christian friends of mine gave me pamphlets when they heard that I was athiest. I got **** from friends that were religious, yet get high, cheat, have had abortions, broken the law and they act like they are "god fearing". Not exactly the best representation of a group.

As for living your life to the fullest, its what its all about.

Now my question to you, why do you believe in microevolution but not macroevolution?

honestly i know this will piss you off extremely haha but...

i look at the human body and cant imagine that it evolved. its too perfect, too intricate to be 'random' (IMO!) plus, there is no hard evidence of any transitionary forms of an evolving human.

but ya again i cant say this enough, glad no one here is being a **** abotu this haha

Oh but TPS, its not perfect at all. Our spines are still curved, which isn't mean for walking on two legs. We still get mutations in our DNA, roughly 10,000 every 24 hours. We still get diseases. We're not close to perfect.

However, if anyone remembers what I had said earlier, I think that god used evolution as a mechanism to make people, so I'm not completely trying to shoot down your opinion, mine is a combination of both.

It works out pretty well.

Check out this talk by Stephen Hawking: YouTube - Stephen Hawking: Asking big questions about the universe

His quote "Because we haven't picked up any alien transmission signals from the nearest 100 light years around us, I discount the anecdotes of being visited by aliens. So I think an alien abduction insurance policy would be a pretty safe bet."

Hahahahahahaha
