Noobs don't usually bother me except.....

We all started out as Noobs at one point and when a Noob comes into the gym they don't bother me, infact when a Noob comes into the gym when it's long past New Years I give them a lot of credit for taking the 1st step but today in the gym this one noob really pissed me off because he was acting like he knew everything despite being a Noob. For example with me personally he saw me doing squats and tried to give me a LONG lecture about why squats are bad for you (I let him talk while I was doing my thing). He also went over to another guy who by the way is just coming off a 1st place finnish in the light heavy weight class of an all natural competition and trying to lecture him on why he should ony go half way down on the bench press. Do any of you guys have experience with this because today I was almost at the point where I wanted to tell this guy to shut up.

yep there are a few guys like that in my gym, an old fat guy told me once(i tried standing calves on the smith) i do my calves wrong with too much weight cause the bar was bending bla bla when i said, its a bar it should withstand the load, if it would break it would be a cheap and unsafe bar then he said something like: well it's not your gym you wouldn't have to pay for it if it broke

and then there was another guy, well i was doing my power cycle and he came to me and said: heavy squats are very bad cause the human body isn't constructed to adapt to a heavy load like that, the only thing the human body is adaptable at is cardio

man i hate old fat people in gyms which don't know anything about the things they were saying <.<

It's usually best to just let 'em speak their long winded speeches and then just nod politely or tell em off. I've been lifting for many years now in various gyms and there are always people who are lifting incorrectly, breathing in a disadvantageous manner, etc. And being an Athletic Trainer and a Strength and Conditioning Coach it peeves me real bad seeing people talk/do dumb **** in the gym, especially giving advice when they have no IDEA what they are talkin' bout. Anyways, just let 'em hate, and yeah, unless they bigger than you, don't bother listening. Especially to the old fat ones ;-)

Well, if they are big, they are apparently (hopefully) doing something right. I would rather listen to how a huge guy got huge than some skinny guy try to tell me I'm doing something wrong. Just my 2 cents.

Oh i more than agree.
But i also wouldn't just listen to anyone bigger than me.
I am in no way big, other than fat, but i like to think i know a little bit about how to lift and such. ( a lot I've learned from here) But i still wouldn't listen to someone, and trust their knowledge by there size.

I can tell you for a fact that I know a lot more than a lot of people that are bigger than me. I'm 16 so a lot of people are bigger than me because of longer time in the gym ect. but they doesn't mean I don't know my ****. This probably sounds pretty ****y, but I'm just proving a point.

i put a "lol" after it to show I was joking...it's something insulting and a conversation stopper rather than a life philosophy. I'd only say that to an idiotlike the one mentioned in the op's post. Most guys with amazing genetics who look awesome without even trying have less to offer than the guy with average genetics that has to work 2x as hard to look 1/2 as good.

7 baseball players last night were doing 65lb (total... that's the bar and 2 tens) in the power rack when I walked in ready to max on my deadlifts. I was ready to walk through a ****ing wall. I walk by them and instead of being nice and doing the right thing, as I walk by I say to them "what the **** do you think you're doing?" This gets to them a tad, but then I do back to back with little to no break rack deads in the ****ty squat rack, and the head dbag is looking at me when I get to my heaviest set and as I see him I look at him in the eye and mouth to him "**** you" as I'm pulling the weight up. I could've been nicer sure, but i got my point across. Of course I thought I was gonna get kicked out when I dropped it from the top, but being friends with the management helps :)

I have personally had 4 different people tell me squats are bad on your back, knees, etc. and then I look down at their legs and laugh to myself...btw, I actually get a kick out of knowing someone is talking to me when I have my headphones in (WTF?) and just acting like they don't even exist...after you do that once or twice, they get the point-->especially when they try to talk to you when you are in the middle of your set!!

Is it just that I put off a "**** you don't talk to me or I'll hit you in the face with a db" vibe or something? It's rare people even talk to me in the gym. Besides like 1 dbag or maybe 2 tops over the past year the only people I've talked to in the gym would be this one spanish guy I say hey to every time I'm in there. Other than that NO ONE talks to me

Guys, I hate to be a killjoy here, and I'm not talking down on anyone in this thread...but these threads bug the hell out of me. I feel like we should have a subforum for people to post stuff like this.

I understand people want to get the stress off their chests, but everyone knows people are idiots and we have to deal with them every day. I just feel like they clutter up the main forum.

We should have one giant thread where we get to talk down to people who suck at working out.


Although, there is a guy in my gym that every time he comes in, he does a running front double bicep pose up to the mirror. Literally. Every time. and he wears a blackberry in a leather holster while he works out.

Hahaha. Yeah I tried it in my house too lol. He benches 185, and within two weeks of returning to using a bench press after rehabing my shoulder for an entire year, i surpassed him. HAH! TAKE THAT GUY!

I was thinking the same thing, ever since my friend Ian said it to me I always hated that word and words like fail or especially when people say epic fail or pwned. No offense intended to anyone of course.

Yeah, I should probably clarify: I was in no way saying that all big guys know what they're doing, nor did I mean that "small" guys don't know what they're doing. Most of the time though, it's the "small" guy that acts like he knows what he's talking about (i.e. "squats are bad for you") yet has chicken legs because his leg workout consists of leg press and leg extensions. Like Mike, I'm not huge, but I know what I'm talking about (for the most part), it's just hard putting all that knowledge to results sometimes (genetics, etc.). And in no way am I making excuses, just sayin.
