We all have heard our share of them, the excuses people use in the gym to justify why they don't do something. Share some of the ones you've heard. The 2 that stick out in my mind are

1) I don't do squats because I have bad knees (I find it strange that the same people who say this then go on the leg press, loag it up with weight then barely bend there knees)

2) I don't want to get big because as soon as I stop my muscles will turn into fat

i don't talk to anyone in my gym or pay attention to what there doing. I go in to train till i bleed/ do my cardio and go eat again.
(sometimes my gym partner even annoys me when he takes to long of a water brake)

This goes along with the legs... a guy in the gym said he doesn't do legs because he likes wearing tighter pants and if he does legs he won't be able to wear them plus he gets his "leg workout" from running on the treadmill

Thing is, it is their body, we can't push or expect to have someone build their body to what we think is right. People have their own self image and ideal image and for a lot of people that workout, they don't want to be 5'9 and have 250 pounds of rock hard muscle.

Regardless of how hard someone trains or not, don't forget the most important part of lifting.....enjoying it and having fun.

Someone will say he doesn't do cardio because he's a hardgainer and is afraid to lose muscle in the process. That excuse is valid but some people are just plain lazy.

I've messed up a disc in my back, so I can't squat or do bent-over rows. It's an excuse, but a valid one, why risk further injury till I can't lift at all, when I can just stay away from a couple of exercises that stress that disc the most. I also have to watch myself on deadlifts too, since it's one of my favorite lifts, I have to be careful and not go too heavy or else I injure myself again.

A few of us have valid excuses, just because I don't squat or do bent-over BB rows doesn't mean I'm not "HARDKORR!" haha

That's hilarious, hahaa.

I've heard excuses like I don't squat or deadlift because I don't want to stunt my growth. I've also heard people say they just plain don't work out because they don't want to stunt their growth. I've heard this from people that are like 6' and taller which doesn't even make sense to me.

when i first started, that used to be my excuse LOL
but now, i realized that doing squats and deadlifts actually made me taller by a inch or two, and i'm still growing

Who talks to people in the gym??

I will mention a certain friend of mine always had excuses about going to the gym, then he and some others got a house and I basically outfitted the garage to the teeth with great equipment...... Worked out for about 2 months solid. Hasn't touched it this year once. ITS TWO STEPS OUT HIS DOOR!

People are just F***ing idiots. I had had knee surgery about 4 months ago and Im in the gym day in and day out busting my balls, and when it comes to legs all I do is deadlift, squats, and leg press, and i go as heavy as i can w/ perfect form. Sh*t it just went to a semi-pro combine and competed there. So all those out there w/ excuses can eat a ****.

I see a lot of you are making fun of people who don't train hard, and well, I guess you work harder. But as of right now, I am one of those who don't train hard at all. I go to school for 8 hours and then i go home with homework for like 3-4 hours EVERY day, including weekends. Frankly I can't manage to give a 100% in the gym, and I think this chracterizes more people than you know. For people who have training as one of their top 3 priorities, it is easy to go hard every time while in the gym, but for some, like me, the gym is just as well a social arena where I meet my friends after 12 hours of study.
I have to say that no one of my friends works this long with their homework, but they have other stuff. Some prioritize school, others may have family trouble and just need to combine working out with a good conversation with their best friend.

I know this was a thread for excuses for why people don't squat etc., and maybe when they say they have bad knees that is a lie, but to cover up what? Maybe they don't want to share their personal family business with everyone.

And for Gods sake, I'm not saying that every girl or guy making excuses does it to cover up something deeper, man there are pussies out there, a lot of them, but when people make excuses there might actually be something ekse behind that lie.

If someone comes up to me and asks me how much I deadlift, I tell them 350lbs. They ask me if I wasn't the guy who did a 440lbs deadlift just a couple of months ago, and I reply "yes. I don't do deadlifts anymore. I don't have the energy do deadlifts anymore".
A poor excuse working 12 hour days every day?

12 hour days i feel you bro ..i was working in a cole mine...was the nozzel man for shotcrete...and you can imagine what a day like that feels like the motivation i needed to get to the gym took everything..but you do have a good point..in some of the areas..we all no some people at the gym and its not wrong to say hi or what not..but when you see the same group of kids cumming in and talking longer then there work outs it gets annoying

First off I tip my hat to you Tdubs for even thinking about the gym after 12 hours woking the cole mine. But BBdude that is by far 1 of the worst excuses I have ever heard. I go to school for 8 hours a day then have to study, cry me a f***ing river. I'm up every day at 5 in the morning doing morning PT, working for 12-15 hours running ranges, going out to the field, training my ass off and guess what I still hit the gym religously. Oh and did I forget to mention that I had knee surgery 4 months ago? And guess what I'm still deadlifting 360 and still clean and press 225. So unless you have a legitamite excuss i.e. your working in a cole mine, a single parent, sh*t if you are taking care of kids (I know how hard that one is) single or not, or some other legit reason along the presented lines you have NO excuss. Dont complain about going to school and not having enough time to lift. If I found time to lift after running missions in Iraq then you have no excusses. Get off your lazy a** and go to the gym.

Excuse me, but what the **** is wrong with you? I'm ****ing 16 man.
Some of us don't live around the gym man. There are WAY more important things in the world than that. Bodybuilding is something I do because I enjoy it, and guess what, if I don't enjoy deadlifting then that is my thing man. I'm not sure if your comment is serious or not, man. 12 hours is a lot of time every day. And I never said I had problems either, so don't come here and tell me "cry me a river", cause I never whined. I was just telling you that there are people in the world taking other things than bodybuilding very serious. If bodybuilding is your lifestyle and your gym is your temple, well then fine. Go ahead. But don't talk thrash about people that choose to take important parts of life more serious. For you the world is obviously black and white. You're either a 100% into bodybuilding or you're a wuss. That's the kinda attitude that causes hate in the world.
I did nothing to provoke you personally, nor do I want to now. I just didn't like people looking upon this with their black-and-white-goggles.
