I think I've made massive gains in just 1 month. I started to do Preacher Curls [are they named after THE Lee Priest, or is this just a coincidence?] in mid-February with a max of 30lbs and now, early-March I'm doing 55lbs max, no cheat reps or partials.

I've also been able to up my barbell chest raises from just the bar, 45 lbs, to a max of 85 lbs.

Is this a significant raise in weights or am I just fooling myself? I need something to compare myself against, I think.

Would these gains just be because I'm doing it PROPERLY now, do you expect me to plateau? Personally, I think I've plateaued in the past but I switched up my grips, weights and reps and have gotten over the plateaus.

Thank you.

Doesnt matter if your gains are through a placebo effect, whats factual is they are gains !

In the early weeks of progressive resistance training it's quite normal for your strength to increase dramatically. It's mostly due to neurological adaptation; you're better able to co-ordinate and activate your muscles.

It's just a coincidence that they're called preacher curls.

why benchpress? ^ good point it is a great way to work your pecs. also it is benficial if done correctly to increase strength in your anterior deltoids and all 3 heads of your triceps... also your coracobrachialis it works.. which is a stabalizer of ur bicep that lays under your bicep and assists in adduction of your arm... so in lamens terms benchpressing works the secondary muscles that help you do many other exercises so ur arms or shoulders dont give out on ya... :) dont wanna hurt yourself now
