Hey everyone. Have a question for you. I'm back to getting ready for a show now after being away from competition thoughts since 1994. Since then I have gotten three tatoos (2 arm bands and one on my upper back).
Seems in the old days you didn't see many tatoos on any bodybuilders; now it is more common place. What are your thoughts on how they affect judging?
Thanks,
Johnny O.

You see them on lots of guys.Ive even heard of some guys trying to place them where it will make them look more cut like between the bis and tris on the inside of the arm.I asked a judge and he said it shouldnt make a difference to most judges he said maybe if you were tattooed from head to toe.But i still try not to place one all over my arms or I wouldnt want one on my abs.

Some tattoos hide cuts and certain aspects that you want people to notice more. Others bring more attention to areas that you want people to notice. It just depends on the detail and the areas it spans.

as a judge myself, i find tats to be distracting. for example, at times its very hard to look at a shoulder covered in a tat and compare to the another shoulder that doesn't have one. IMO it hides muscle seperation and makes it harder for me to make comparsions.

and thats^ straight from a judge.Thats what i thought too when i looked at some dark tats.I want a few more but I dont want it to hide anything.I could see where it might be distracting even if it wasnt really covering anything
