if you just started and your 16 I wouldn't say your weak. Once you are comfortable with your form you will improve immense.

i started with like 15 lbs on each side, (the bar is 45lbs) total 75 lbs. dont worry about going heavy. Work a lot on your form, and once thats good you can increase the weight. its been a yr ive been in the gym and i bench like 190 lbs 8-10 times. i say work on the form cuz u dont want to get injured. hope that helped

Thanks man, I'll try to keep the good work, even though with that weight I just want to have a nice shaped body, not some freaking monster My goal is 175 or 180 pounds ... now atm I'm about 150 , 6'2 tall ... I have another question, what's the regular weight of the benching bar ??? Cuz i'm putting 35 pounds from each side on the bar but don't know how much the bar weights.. sighs

Trust me when you get to 180lbs you will probably want to be around 200lbs

When I started, at the age of 14, I couldn't even press the bar. Now I'm hittin 330. Takes time bro.

I actually don't bench because I've heard it puts a lot of pressure on your rotator cuff, just like when people curl their shrugs [shoulder roll] but I bet I could do more than 100, with all of my other workouts over the past months.

I see the BP as more of a manly macho thing to do, that's where all the jocks go first thing, to do heavy sets of low reps...I did BPs a few times, but didn't like having the bar over me, spotters are crap at the college gym, so I never got into it.

Don't worry about it. I started last January with an 80lbs Bench Press. Now it's around 170 rep. Working progress man.

Tip: For a strong bench you need strong Tri's, Shoulders and back. So make sure not to neglect those body parts.

BTW, when most people quote their poundages, they are not including the bar. So if you put a 35# weight on each side, most people would say their bench press is 70#, though they are actually moving 115#.

Comparing yourself to other people is pointless. Everyone starts at a different point. As an example, my bench is 130#. But my calve raises are 500#, and that's only because the machine only goes that big ;-) The point is not how much you bench when you start, it's that it continues to grow. If you're in your teens, you have tons of time...and you have a recovery ability that many people envy. Train hard and don't forget that diet/rest are just as important.
