Have any of you ever had someone older, someone more knowledgeable, even someone who just meant well take you under his or her wing and teach you the finer points of bodybuilding? A Mentor of sorts? I know that this is something I missed out on and that if I had been found by such a person I would have done things right from the beginning and been alot further along than I am now. I'm curious to see how many of us here had help, and how many of us had to slog it out on our own.

On the flipside, do any of you have a Protégé? Someone that you are teaching and guiding at this point in time? If you either have a mentor or are a mentor I'd love to hear your story.

This is an interesting point...well it all started for me through one of my mates who became really big...older than me ofcourse, i always looked up to him, and he was the first person to take me to a gym, and he certainly contributed greatly to my overall physique and couldnt have learnt the ropes without him. And thus, continuing in this tradition of passing on the gift of iron, i have been taking a younger mate of mine for about a year nearly now, i have built him from the ground up, i am soo thrilled with his vigourous progress, makes me feel proud!! I think that is what the bodybuilding culture is about to me, and means to me. One big brotherhood, where you pass on the gift to those around you. Help those as you were helped. If you were'nt helped, why not start a positive cycle? Give somone what you wish you had in the beggining....a little bit of help.

Incrediably Awesome post, made my day!!!!!!

Welcome to my world fellas. Giving back is what it is all about. Sharing the knowledge and helping people out---when you see it.

It takes a bigger person to step in and help someone out. You feel better inside knowing you helped and educated someone.

I do this a lot, I just don't post it here. I feel it's my way of giving back. But you have to consider the subject and there reaction to your help. Not everyone is as receptive to getting help as you may think.

They don't want to feel inferior or helpless. I'm training a fellow firefighter now to increase his strenght and confidence. His 18 years old and is a stick.. I have created a nice training program for him on an excel spreadsheet, I do this weekly, he fills it out, gives it back to me and I challenge him every time..

He is very greatfull for my help, I can see it in his eyes and our conversations together.. It's a wonderfull feeling.

Take care fellas.

Chris

Well my mentor at the moment and from the past has just been me myself and I, I just read into it, but its a great feeling knowing you've built your body or you've gained that extra bit of knowledge through your own independence

Good on you for helping out a mate Tripower, I fully plan on doing the same with my younger cousin, its great seeing someone start out and helping them realise just what they are capable of!

Can you tell us anymore Orbit? Has he helped you rise at work or is it just someone you look up to and respect?

Yea i was wearing my wrestling sweatshirt at the gym when i was like 15 and this man walked up to me and helped me some excersices. He wrestled at penn state and now i go to the gym with him everyday. He has helped me progress and has giving me information that would have taken years to fully research.
