hi guys,

I made a thread a while ago called age/amount or something like that. I have now decided to join a gym. I was just wondering how much I should be lifting lol... It's just that in sports ed and biology we have discussed muscle strain and the vulnerability people of my age have to it.

It'd be great if you could give me a maximum rough weight I should be lifting.

D.O.B: 11/01/93 (15 years and 9 days old)
Height: 174.4cm
Weight: 68KG

I can do around my body weight on most of the machines I think.

It is different for everybody. Depends on how naturally strong you are. Just try out some stuff and see what the best weight for you to lift is

If you do the exercises right, you should be fine with whatever you can pull off.. If you do it wrong, you will be able to lift a lot heavier weights, and that may / will cause injuries

My professor gave a lecture one day about this topic and it seemed that with people ages 15 and below the general rule of thumb ( for bench press atleast ) is to get down on all fours and in a pushup position place your hands on a scale. In your case the scale should read around 45 kg (100lbs).
This is just a general rule for young kids who want to start weight training.

If I were you, I would run an experimental period for a couple weeks. Do all the workouts you're going to do, but experiment and find you 10 rep max, 8 rep max, 6 rep max, etc. Once you've figured out the weights you can do for each exercise, begin. During your experimental period, focus on form. Form is the key to success, bro.

form is really important for newbies, however i have seen more advanced trainers make good gains with a lil cheating in their routine

start light, build up your form and stabilizers, your body will tell you when too move on because the weights will be feeling lighter and lighter and muscles wont ache so much post wo. once you have your form, your split (ie 12, 10, 8 rep range with desired weight amount) you can build from that. a solid base is key to muscle growth and preventing injury.

When you find your rep max, isn't it called Mechanical Load? Or something like that..

It's all dependent on how your muscles are and your natural strength is. At 15I could legpress 500 pounds, i've always lifted generally heavyier and lower rep and it didn't stunt my growth at all i'm taller than my father and his father ETC, i'm one of the tallest in my family. Theres no one list that can tell you how much you should lift, it all depends on how much you can lift.
