When I was around 14 I tore my shoulder out of its socket tackling a big guy side on, It came out the back but popped straight back in again, it hurt like hell at the time. At the hospital they did an x-ray on my shoulder and found a query fracture (in other words a dark line that could have been a growing "root") and probably a couple torn/bruised muscle bits so I was packed off with heavy painkillers and anti-inflamatories told to take it easy for a couple months then do some special exercises.

I did these and all seemed fine, till it happened again at another rugby match couple years on, this time it didnt hurt enough for me to want to go to hospital, just sit the rest of the match out and the next couple of games.

Alas very early last year I was lifting a barbell over my shoulders ( I know not the brightest idea) but anyway, out my shoulder popped and down came the barbell on the back of my neck (50kg on a 10-20 kg barbell) again off to hospital i go with another "query" fracture this time of the bits that stick out the back of your vertibrae.

Yesterday I was hitting the gym after a really painfully hard exam, fairly pissed off listening to some pretty heavy metal and I start off with a few stretches (rotating arms and soulder etc) then couple of shrugs with 25kg bar working up to 95kg then drop down to 20kg dumbells to finish, then I go to start the leg workout lift the barbell off the rack to do a couple warmup sets, them done i realise the rack is a little low for my liking so i go to lift the bar off my back and over my shoulder and what happens, out the shoulder pops, I drop to my knees in agony then go home.

My shoulder socket cartilage (glenoid labrum) is where i think the problem is, has anyone else torn/injured this before and managed a full recovery? with or without surgical help?

I know you guys aint doctors but im sure as weightlifters one or 2 of yoou must have experienced something similar ( i think Yates had a shoulder injury?), I'd like to hear your stories and how you did or didnt get over it,
Thanks

Well lets see i myself has suffered a few shoulder injuries due to baseball. And also now of a few people who have dislocated theres much like you have. In each one of there cases they did tear there labrum. And unfortunately the only way to fix it. Or to be able to live a normal life without pain again is a SLAP Surgery where the go in and repair all the tears ect... And i am not going to lie it is more painful then the actual injury. Imho i would schedule a appointment with a good or surgen who specializes in orthapedic sports injures and get his intake on it. In most likely hood they will request surgery as soon as possible and i would take it.
