I was think ing back to my first ever visit to a bodybuilding gym. It was O'mally's hard core gym in Warrington, I was 8.5 stone wet through and when you went in you had to walk past all the guys sat down having their drinks and I heard one say " Ive never seen a lat move before" and people started laughing. Truly it was one of the most intimidating times in my life and initially I would have to psych myself up to walk in th gym cos I felt like shitting myself. I think we forget how hard it is for newbies to make that first visit and I just wondered if you guys had any stories what your first visit to the gym was like? was it funny? was it a bit intimidating?

wer i live ther isnt reeli any true hardcore bbing gyms, but the gym i train at has gradually turned into one abit wiv the help of my team lol, wen i first started i was lucky cos ther was mainly women and oldies and a few teens, but i can actually remeber wen i was inspired to become a bber, and make the leep from wanting to be one to being one, we wer training in the weights room wen this guy came in, he's egyption (not sure how to spell) he was the biggest guy ive ever seen (in person) an absolute beast, defined, mass and incredible strength, and i fort i wana b like him, but gradually ive changed from wanting to b like him to wanting to b better than him lol, then ther was my training partner aswell, he was the only competition hu was upto par wiv the egytpition guy, and thats reeli how i gt started. so my first trip to the gym was inspirational

my first visit down the gym was when i was in the rugby team when i was about 15ish. We all went down there and thought we were pretty strong,, started lifting things were going good. But then this bloke came down and he wa huge, biggest bloke iv seen and he started training. Anyway the moment that made me stop and just watch him was he started doing shrugs. He loaded up his bar with just about every plate in the gym and was just shrugging away as if it was nothing. That made me realise i was definately not that strong, but ut gave me inspiration to carry on training and get as big as this bloke.

Hi Andy I started training at Omally's in 1984, I was 24 and to be honest we didnt have places like the dungeon and for a long time the training I did was counter productive. My training for a number of years was hit and miss and as for dieting I hadnt a clue. I was lucky to meet a nice couple along the way who were well known in the sport and I learnt a lot from them. so in 1992 I began serious training and in 1996 I dieted down to compete in the mansfield classic, where I took first place in the over 35's and the beginners and after that I was hooked.

The first time I went to a Gym was when I was 16 and I went with my grandfather. I was proud and emberased at the same time because on that day I benched 165 for 4 reps and my grandfather at 68 was repping 245 for reps of 8-10. and Standing pressing 205 for reps of 6

first time in a gym was right after I completed my final year of trade school, I stepped on the scale and saw that I was only a few pounds shy of 300lbs, I was actually kinda heartbroken that I had allowed myself to get to that point but then another guy in the change room who saw my weight said to me "you're a big guy with a good base you just gotta make something out of it." From that point I was living and breathing the gym and swore that I would always be in control of my own body. Now I can proudly look around and know that I am one of the biggest guys in the gym...and it's good.
