I don't know if you have distinguished the weight lifts Lou works out,but they seem very light to me.I don't know if you remember his training during the preparation against arnold in "pumping iron".I've heard that Jay also works out with light weight.BUt those of Lou seem very light for a body of his size.Just look Pumping Iron

a few bodybuilders over the years used light weight over heavy weight... but their light weight is still heavy for the average person lol

They see it as a way to gain max muscle, without the prospect of serious injury from heavy weight

I know thats why jay does it

also, sometimes, photoshoots are out of the ordinary, and if they use heavy weights for them it can fuck thier progress n stuff up.
maybe they dont want to use heavy weights ALL the time
maybe they want to keep everyone guessing how much they really lift
who knows

but think about it for a while

it also depends how you use a weight, rest pause and slow mo training ensure there is no momentum and allows you to utilise a isometric approach that enables you to mentally focus strongly on the muscle being worked. So 1 rep might 20-30 secs and throughout this you are using isometric tension. You have to use lighter weights, but its not an easy option, its hardcore

lou curled 100lbs dombells seated without movement of the back in an outake in pumping iron.

he also did overhead presses with 245lbs for 10 easy reps. that's heavy i think.

i really don't understand guys that wanna overhead press 405lbs or more on a smith machine for 2 or 3 reps.

well in the case of "big louie" he used reasonably heavy weight, and when finished his set would move right on to his next set of lighter weight but with no rest!!
