I know these days people say only train a body part once a week maybe twice max for around an hour to an hour and a half. But if you look at arnolds training he used to do back in the 70's he used to hit a body part up to 3 times a week and train for anything up to 2-3 hours!
Surely that would be considered over training.

He used to train twice a day for like 2 hours each time.
For me and for most people this is overtraining.
He could do this because he had superhuman genetics and used steroids so could recover very fast.

First off, Arnold is a demi-god...but it wasn't just him who trained like that-Robby robinson, Franco, Zane, Sergio, Ferrigno, etc. They all had fantastic physiques and they all used drugs. You can train more when you are on the drugs, end of story. Despite all of these guys actual training methods you need to take into account that they were also genetic specimens too. Great Genetics, drugs, intense-cyclical training regimens, and a beach?!? But don't train like those guys unless you have 3 out of 4 requirements they had/ and the beach might not be one of them.

Training twice a day is not necessarily over training. In fact I know most see it as a very good idea. As long as one is eating enough and resting enough I think it is a great idea for being able to rest between muscle groups to give equal intensity to each muscle group. Its also about having enough time to be able to do so. However, working each body part three times a week with super intensity and high volume each time I feel is over training. However, I am a firm believer in high volume twice a week workouts.

Well said bro, they had awesome genetics and were using juce, end of story. It is pointless to compare to them, do what works for you through trail and error.

I know some guy that swear that anything over exactly an hour leads to overtraining. Always giving me shit at the gym because he's been there for a couple of years, I stay in the gym around 2 hours at a time most days.

I'm just sitting there saying if i'm overtraining how come i've been here a solid three months and i'm catching up to you in the numbers in strength. I must be doing something right.
