If you don't mind I would like to try to explain this always confusing instruction.
Here is the correct way to apply that rep scheme that people are telling you about.
It is the weight that determines the reps!
For instance, if you can do 100lbs for 12 reps only the first set, then you workout range is 12 reps. you should not be able to complete that 12 reps on all the following sets
This is called progressive resistance you must understand it for any other bodybuilding principle to have any effect.
Now to do 8 reps per set you will have to increase the weight to ( just picking a number) 120lbs. of course you would have to increase the weight even more for sets in the 6 rep range.
If you can do 12 reps with a weight then it too Light for 6 or 8 reps ranges.
I’m going to give you some real worthy advice it may not seem like much but if you apply it you will see results no matter what system you follow
Ready?
here it is your muscles grow from Failure not success. If you are not failing at you goal rep ranges on the last two sets the weight is too light. If the weight is too light than the muscles have no reason to want to adapt to the stress and so no reason to get bigger,

Good luck building them big arms!
